Members are discussing the accreditation and acceptance of BSN and MSN degrees from GCU in different states, particularly focusing on the requirement of a preceptorship for BSN programs. There are concerns about certain states not accepting GCU BSN degrees, while others share experiences with the capstone course and offer tips for scholarly activities. Additionally, there is mention of GCU transitioning back to a non-profit status and the impact of this change on students.
Howdy all, I bit the bullet and after much research, I decided on Grand Canyon! Wow, I did not expect BSN schools to be like used car salesmen--hounding me by emails and phone calls. Rather impressed on how Grand Canyon sort of left me alone, but at the same time kept in touch.
Commence my first class Sept 30th, excited, yet very nervous, as I'm not a big fan of school, LOL! I did extremely well on my Associate degree, graduated back in 2009 from Northern Virginia Community College. We shall see.
Would love to hear from past and present Grand Canyon RN to BSN students.
I'm new to allnurses, but just found your thread. I'm currently a GCU student starting module 3 for Trends and Issues... I have Patho and then capstone. I've doubled up the last week and first week the last two classes so I should be done 8/17/14!!! I also need 3 credits so am planning on taking DSST - Here's to your health. Has anyone taken in and can you give me advice?
What is DSST?
I was in my friends wedding yesterday so my weekend has been busy. Time to crack down and get to work on this coming weeks assignments. Soon I can have a social life again.....
How is it going and what week? Is it week 3 starting tomorrow?
Almost done!!
Oh, for those that want to know or care, lol. I guess you can officially call yourself a BSN on the Monday after your last class/week. So as of Sunday night at midnight, it is official. :)

It is going well! Week 3 starts tomorrow. I am gonna start working on the DQ's here after I grab some food. I am starving. I can't believe it is week 3 already. So close to being done!

I had those DQ done early, and I was so darn happy to post the last one. I hated those things.
is the paper coming together? I hope you aren't having a case of writers block.

Slowly but surely. I hope I can turn the paper in early this week as well. I work Monday and Tuesday night though.... so I don't see it being too early this week. Dang it.
It was a huge adjustment for me and I think I can answer for Pandora as well. Just when we thought we understood how the classes were designed, the next class had a completely different set up, such as a 2 paper CLC, or a DQ worth more points and with references. As I said in a post before, my GCU advisor called me while I work. I was soooo annoyed with the class workload (and having a bad day at work, to make matters worse) that I took the call in the supply hallway, stuck between a blanket warmer and a rack of SCD machines, trying to blend in with walkers hanging behind my head.I was soo mad at GCU for this intense workload (that is designed to be doable with a FT job, so they say) that I gave my poor advisor some heated advice on their curriculum!
He assured me that it was doable and this was just a huge learning curve for me, and I would be "OK". Sure enough, I found that groove and even though I hated those pesky DQ's until the last one, and complained about the papers, I still was able to pass this program, with kids, committee work, family life and work.
I did it, Pandora did it, and JRich will be finished soon. Just keep plugging away and take one class at a time.
Thank you, Tokmom for your motivating words. I'm getting out of my little funk, I think. I'm getting so excited for this class to be over so I can start Health Assessment. Are there any recommendations for this class? Or any instructors to avoid? PM if so.
Thanks so much and CONGRATS to you on your BSN!!!! I cannot wait to be in your shoes!
