Members are discussing the accreditation and acceptance of BSN and MSN degrees from GCU in different states, particularly focusing on the requirement of a preceptorship for BSN programs. There are concerns about certain states not accepting GCU BSN degrees, while others share experiences with the capstone course and offer tips for scholarly activities. Additionally, there is mention of GCU transitioning back to a non-profit status and the impact of this change on students.
Howdy all, I bit the bullet and after much research, I decided on Grand Canyon! Wow, I did not expect BSN schools to be like used car salesmen--hounding me by emails and phone calls. Rather impressed on how Grand Canyon sort of left me alone, but at the same time kept in touch.
Commence my first class Sept 30th, excited, yet very nervous, as I'm not a big fan of school, LOL! I did extremely well on my Associate degree, graduated back in 2009 from Northern Virginia Community College. We shall see.
Would love to hear from past and present Grand Canyon RN to BSN students.
Ummm, that sounds like more homework!! What the hay!? Dang, don't tell me my job is going to make me USE this degree (after they paid for most of it)?? LOL
I know! That's what I thought too! At least it is something I'm interested in and I get paid for doing it.
What makes it really sad is the fact I asked her what our PICO might be and she knew what I was talking about .
So yeah, even though I too, have taken on debt and don't get paid for my BSN (unless I can get it in our next union contract), I'm already using it and I haven't even officially graduated yet.
How is everyone doing?? it's been quiet around here....
Started on my capstone homework. The class starts at Midnight and I want to turn a few things in ASAP. Done with Patho!!
I really need to start working on 1 assignment at a time. I am just bouncing around from one to another. I guess as long as they all get completed on time that is the main thing that matters.
Finished my DQ's for the week, the PICO question, and the Capstone Sources appraisal. I just have the identifying problem paper left for the week. I'm trying to get ahead for this class....
All this talk of capstone is scaring me!!!

I think your instructor made it more difficult than it had to be.

This seems to be a common problem from what I can glean from the discussions and my own experience. It doesn't help you have multiple assignments due in one week.
I found myself working on all of them at the same time. A bit here and a bit there and I felt disorganized. Just when I thought I was caught up, I realized I hadn't proofed the other paper.
I finally sequestered myself in the bedroom for 12 hour time frames, with no kids, husband or pets to bother me. I did this once a week and was able to stay ahead of the game.
All this talk of capstone is scaring me!!!
Don't let it scare you quite yet
Just kidding, lol. Seriously, it really wasn't that bad. Pandora and I have a great instructor who had her own organizing tips and lots of details that helped immensely. The paper is actually written in pieces along the way. Once you get to week 5, you simply piece them all together (Yes cut and paste) and edit for redundancy and flow. Complete your appendices, if any, and you are DONE!
The downside is, it is a lot of work and an accumulation of everything you learned through the program, but it seems to focus more on research. Like JRich says, it's all those papers and keeping them organized and trying not to bounce around from one to the next, but it is doable.

...and this is why it's important to keep things in your computer for later retrieval (save pertinent Lecture Notes, etc.), I have a file called "things I'll probably need to revisit later". I've found that, especially in Stats & Research, it was a little hard (a little?!), and it flies by so fast, I was tempted to just get the assignments done and move onto the next thing, but... it does all come back to haunt you later. So I'm trying to focus on really learning the content and processes because we will all need it later! I know for a fact I'll need to brush up on Stats and Lit Review, as well as critiquing research articles - not my specialty...

I found myself going back to research and stats to re-read a few things.

I would have liked to have had my work pay for some of this, but they require you to stay there for 2 years after graduation. Nope, I am planning on leaving within a couple months. I need new scenery
