Members are discussing the accreditation and acceptance of BSN and MSN degrees from GCU in different states, particularly focusing on the requirement of a preceptorship for BSN programs. There are concerns about certain states not accepting GCU BSN degrees, while others share experiences with the capstone course and offer tips for scholarly activities. Additionally, there is mention of GCU transitioning back to a non-profit status and the impact of this change on students.
Howdy all, I bit the bullet and after much research, I decided on Grand Canyon! Wow, I did not expect BSN schools to be like used car salesmen--hounding me by emails and phone calls. Rather impressed on how Grand Canyon sort of left me alone, but at the same time kept in touch.
Commence my first class Sept 30th, excited, yet very nervous, as I'm not a big fan of school, LOL! I did extremely well on my Associate degree, graduated back in 2009 from Northern Virginia Community College. We shall see.
Would love to hear from past and present Grand Canyon RN to BSN students.
Health assessment is a busy class. In fact, it seemed to level off (or I got used to the busy-ness of the course) after community. I told my advisor (as I was standing in the corner of the DME supply room, ranting into my phone) that these classes were too busy for someone working full time with families, and every class just seemed to ramp up to a higher level.
He promised me that the work levels off, and it did. So hang in there. It does get better, but those first few classes come with a learning curve. You have to learn how to be a student, when you are still expected to be a wife, mom, and employee!! If my kids wanted any social interaction with me, they had to come sit next to me and my laptop . My husband totally took over cooking, and most of the cleaning, because it wasn't going to get done any other way.
My work probably had the most of my attention, because I'm the breadwinner and I didn't need to get fired, lol.
My nursing and garden magazines are in a big pile, my flower beds suck, my car needs to be shoveled, and I'm sure my credit score took a nosedive because I paid bills late, because I forgot. Yep, totally scatterbrained .
So lean on others for help with chores, and say good bye to your family and focus on school if you have to, to get the assignments done.
I would be interested in your choice for capstone as well.
Mine was on compassion fatigue and burnout. A passion of mine.
Hello all I have a question. I just got excepted to GCU and only have to take 10 of the core classes. I have the choice to take Ethical Decision Making in Health Care again or Trends and Issues in Health Care again since I have to complete 30credits at GCU. Which class would you rather take again and why? I would really appreciate any input.

We don't like you anymore. That's not fair! (just kidding, of course)
tokmom and JRich are your best bet for this question as I don't think the rest of us have been there/done that yet. But, I suspect the answer will be to take Ethics :)
@PrismRN, LOL guess what I don't have to take statistics either:yeah: I was asking the guy at GCU can't I take another class instead of taking a class that I already had in Nursing school, and he said No you have to take 30 core credit courses.

That's it, you've been voted off the island!!!!
LOL, Prism.
No doubt Beauty, you lucky person.
So, I if I understand you correctly, you only have to choose one other class, Ethics or Trends?
I would take ethics, unless you Loooove the IOM. I probably would have enjoyed ethics more if I wasn't so sick with food poisoning. Most of that class is a blur to me. Thankfully, it was ethics and didn't require my brain to fire at a 100%. Both, by the way, have a CLC...sorry:nailbiting:
Please don't vote me off this island LOL
Lucky!! I was originally told I wouldn't have to take ethics cause I took ethics as my community college, but then they made me take it to fulfill my 36 credits at GCU. I would definitely choose ethics out of the two.
@JRich thanks for the info! I have to fulfill 30 credits at GCU.

I cannot remember, but have you started yet? I can't see how they only say 30, when everyone else has to take 36?
