Members are discussing the accreditation and acceptance of BSN and MSN degrees from GCU in different states, particularly focusing on the requirement of a preceptorship for BSN programs. There are concerns about certain states not accepting GCU BSN degrees, while others share experiences with the capstone course and offer tips for scholarly activities. Additionally, there is mention of GCU transitioning back to a non-profit status and the impact of this change on students.
Howdy all, I bit the bullet and after much research, I decided on Grand Canyon! Wow, I did not expect BSN schools to be like used car salesmen--hounding me by emails and phone calls. Rather impressed on how Grand Canyon sort of left me alone, but at the same time kept in touch.
Commence my first class Sept 30th, excited, yet very nervous, as I'm not a big fan of school, LOL! I did extremely well on my Associate degree, graduated back in 2009 from Northern Virginia Community College. We shall see.
Would love to hear from past and present Grand Canyon RN to BSN students.
Hi everyone! I have 4 classes left....FOUR! Im so glad to be in the last few months, but was wondering if it would be feasible, crazy, smart of me to double up any of these 4. I have leadership starting this coming Monday, patho, trends, and then the Capstone. What would you all recommend? Could any of these be taken together or would it just be better to do them separately. Any info on instructors for these last 4 would be amazing as well!!! Thanks to all!!
I didn't double up any classes as I was not in a rush to finish, so really can't say!! I enjoyed patho, as it dealt with more of what one sees at the bedside, so it was easier to relate to. Believe only had 1 DQ a week, but it required a bit more work than a normal DQ...but the DQs were enjoyable. No group project in Leadership (NRS 451) Probably double up patho and leadership. PM sent
You're not allowed to double up capstone with any other courses, I tried. I added trends the last two weeks of patho, it was doable, as Flames_9R said, patho was easy to relate since I work on a busy step-down unit and the patient population was very similar to those in the scenarios and there is only 1 DQ, so it wasn't hard for me to add trends during the last two weeks. Weight all your options and Good Luck to you.
I can't believe there is one in patho!! How was that class were there papers?
Ya only 1 DQ, but a bit more in depth--but interesting as it was "medical based" Our instructor made up a 2nd DQ each week, but u didnt have to do it..but it made getting ur required # of posts easier! 1st week one has an open book exam...too easy...no time limit...do it as many times as u want to get 100%!! Yes a couple of papers to write...2 case studies...Group project and even a PPT.....I enjoyed the class

Do any of you know the grading scale for GCU? I recently have received a terrible grade on a paper; the worst since I have been in the program.
Thank you!

Rob has some valid points.... I switch up classes on each instructor that switched up the rules. I have to admit there were some on the list that I stayed away from, but again, they made up their own guidelines. There is a recommended Stats instructor that is amazing though. I'm typing this as a finish up my capstone! Can't believe this endless road of staring at my computer and typing away has nearly come to a end!
