Grand Canyon University RN to BSN Reviews

Nursing Students School Programs Nursing Q/A

Howdy all, I bit the bullet and after much research, I decided on Grand Canyon! Wow, I did not expect BSN schools to be like used car salesmen--hounding me by emails and phone calls. Rather impressed on how Grand Canyon sort of left me alone, but at the same time kept in touch.

Commence my first class Sept 30th, excited, yet very nervous, as I'm not a big fan of school, LOL! I did extremely well on my Associate degree, graduated back in 2009 from Northern Virginia Community College. We shall see.

Would love to hear from past and present Grand Canyon RN to BSN students.

My wife and I are starting the RN-BSN on Nov. 24th, 2014. Any advice? We are both working FT and have a 2 month old. Thanks!

Just keep coming back here, when you have questions put them up here, there are enough of us through the course or going through in different stages to be able to give you some answers.

Advice. Hmm.

1. Get a babysitter.

2. Get the biggest bottles of Pepcid/Zantac/TUMS that Costo carries.

3. Bookmark this thread (and the other one https://allnurses.com/nursing-online-distance/grand-canyon-rn-793249.html)

4. Hang on!

Just kidding of course (not really), the best advice is to try and keep ahead of the game, take advantage of the tutors and/or video tutorials on APA formatting and the use of the GCU library (they have live webinars for the library), and ask us questions!

Thank you for your responses. I will bookmark the other link that you recommended. I've done many APA papers with good grades but could always use the tutorials. I'm always screwing up the format mostly as I try to finish at the last hour.

One resource I like is PERRLA. It automatically puts your paper into APA format, including in text citations and references. I wouldn't write a paper without it! It is well worth the $6 or $7 they charge. I also use Write Check to check for grammar errors and plagiarism. They also charge per paper but I also think it is worth the money. Like the others have said, if you have questions, just ask! Good luck to you both!

I would ask feliciarn22, in case it is "lost". They have until the Sunday of week 2 so hang on! I've had ones that grade nearly to the minute of when it is due.

Welcome to the dark side or as it would be in GCU-land, the purple side, lol. Go LOPES!

Can't add more than what everyone else mentioned.

Are you and your wife in the same classes and instructor? Ask your instructor if you can be together for the CLC. Make sure to ask in the private forum though. I went through with a buddy from all nurses, and we were in all of the CLC's together from class number two. on It works well because someone always has your back that you can trust.

Thanks again everyone! I am having some serious anxiety about how to juggle my time and being all that I can be. This is some great information to help me get started but I still HATE writing APA with a passion. I haven't met anyone who likes it!!! I did the 3 day class but that was easy. I did it just for fun and to learn about the website and the useful resources. I have an A in that class. :)

Good luck to everyone!

The three day class is great. It gives you a idea of the format.

Oh here is a tip: Get into the classroom as early as Friday and read anything from the instructor such as announcements. If they are serious APA crazies or seem nuts and unrealistic, do NOT post on Monday. Call your advisor and get moved. This maY be tricky with two students, but it can be done. You can also request certain instructors too.

You and you wife can do this. It isn't rocket science. The first few classes come with a learning curve, but one you develop a routine you will be fine.

And be careful of submitting too late. If turn it in (tii) is slow due to others submitting late, the system can be really behind, leaving you past the deadline.

There is a FB tech page, that will give ticket numbers if tii or loud cloud crashes. I think prism has that link. :)
