Grand Canyon RN-BSN

Nursing Students Online Learning

Is there any updated information? I have been in heavy contact with them and am looking at taking their RN-BSN program. I work with a GCU grad and she has nothing but positive things to say, but I want more opinions. ?

Any pro's and cons? Thankfully the only class I'm missing is stats and that is offered in the actual BSN program. I'm a bit nervous as my algebra skills are way old. If anyone took this class, do you have any advice?

The capstone was much easier than I expected it to be. It's divided over the five-week period, so each week you do a little bit more of the capstone and in the fifth week you compile it all into one project. As long as each week you get a good grade on the portion of project that you complete, your final project will be ready to compile. The hardest part of that project, is during week one. The first week you have to do a literature search of 15 journal articles on a subject of your choice. Those 15 articles and that subject will be the basis of your capstone. Luckily for me I went into it knowing what I wanted to do my project on. But if you don't know upfront you could get hit with having to come up with a subject quickly. I did mine on cardiac rehabilitation. Another student did hers on urinary tract infections, and another person did theirs on wound care.

I enjoyed the nursing research class. In fact, you begin to start thinking about your capstone project during that course.

I have to write my implementation plan this week and am clueless.

The implementation plan is how you would implement your new idea. I went to my CNS and asked her what the process would be ( who we would need approval from first) this might be your floor manager or a hospital patient care committee. You need to make education forms for how you would educate both the nurses and the patients. What is your research subject? You can PM me if you like.

I have a question (waving hand madly in the air)..Do we truly have to implement this at our work and do we need to have our manager sign off on any portion of this?? And...do we have to present this in a staff meeting?:uhoh3:

What is an education form? Some of GCU's projects can be weak in detail and what they want versus what I think they want can be frustrating at times.

No, you don't actually implement nor does it need to be signed off. You're basically doing the work to educate yourself on the process , and learning the steps of a research project. :)

Thank Goodness!

You do not have to implement your Caplin study at work, while you're in your BSN program. I did because my manager heard about it and thought it would be a good idea. And education form is simply the form that you would use to teach people. So let's say you were doing cardiac education it would be a cardiac education form, or if you were doing on something on diabetes it would be like a handout, That you created to teach people about what your new processes is.

Ahh, so staff education, eh? Interesting. That gives me some ideas then. Thanks!

Hi all. I am looking for a online RN-BSN program as will probably do GCU. I read some of your posts which made me more happy about choosing GCU. I am just wondering for those that decided to go there, how are you liking so far? Any regrets, complaints? Anything I should know about before submitting my application??

Thanks!

Hi gikg

There is another thread in this forum started by flamesrn. His Avatar has flags on it. There is more recent info there.

No real complaints. Some of the instructors can be rather vague on instructions which can be maddening. In the real world you would go to them and ask questions. Being online makes you at their mercy to get back to you. Most are very prompt. I would do it again as I have had no problems.

Anyway, look for the other posts. I will bump it closer to the top. :)

Hello fellow 'Lopes!!

Going to start the Nursing Research Class sometime in November. I imagine the syllabus for all instructors are the same. Can anyone tell me if the CLC group project is due on the last week of class? The reason why I ask is because I am planning to fly out of country on the second day of the last week of the class. Now, if it's an individual assignment due that week, I would be able to finish it ahead of time along with my discussion questions; classmate responses will have to be done via internet cafes etc (going to Asia =P). However, if it's the CLC group project due at the end, I might have to re-think my flight plans. Thanks in advanced!!
