Grand Canyon RN-BSN

Nursing Students Online Learning

Is there any updated information? I have been in heavy contact with them and am looking at taking their RN-BSN program. I work with a GCU grad and she has nothing but positive things to say, but I want more opinions. ?

Any pro's and cons? Thankfully the only class I'm missing is stats and that is offered in the actual BSN program. I'm a bit nervous as my algebra skills are way old. If anyone took this class, do you have any advice?

I am starting July 29th. I also talked one of my co-workers into starting with me. I do have to pick an elective class to fulfill graduation requirements. Not sure of what the choices are yet. When do you start stats?

Congratulations casiegarcia! And excellent idea to have someone with you throughout the program. Your co-worker will either love you, or hate you at the end. Kidding!!!! It will be good for both of you. Make sure to tell your advisors that you want to go through the program together. They have a special section that accommodates "twins". We're starting stats in less than 2 weeks. Eeeek!! :yuck: Hopefully it won't be as bad as we think. Good luck, and enjoy your last weeks of freedom. Bwahahahhhahaha.

Thanks, pandorasbox...That's my fear, NO FREEDOM. But I realize it is for the best. Has your employer placed any timelines on getting your BSN? Mine has not but I heard that this has already started at other facilities so I would rather be ahead of the game. My co-worker also only has to take the 12 core classes but she does have to take the dreaded stats....Please keep me posted as to how the class is.

Thanks for everything,

Casie

BTW: You and Tokman are awesome :-) !!!

Congrats on becoming a GCU student! Please keep us posted on how you are doing and if we can help, if any. :)

BTW, Pandora starts her stats on the 15th, the same day I do. ;)

I will definitely keep you posted. I am just worried about the paper writing because its been awhile since I took a English class. I have never used APA format before. Were you a good writer when you started the program? Is it expected to be a good writer when starting this program or is this something that you refresh or learn over? Have you ever had to utilize the online tutors to review your papers before turning them in? If so, how was it? Hey Pandora, I would appreciate your incite as well.

Thanks for everything....you have been a great help. I'm so glad that I found both of you because I really wanted a current students point of view before starting with GCU...

So Pandora was the APA whiz, and I was the person that hadn't done a paper in over 20 years. Back in the stone age, you just wrote the paper. OMG..now it's APA style? I remember freaking out, but I found two programs to help me. Grammarly and PEERLA. Grammarly helps with just that and also has a plagiarism checker, and PEERLA helps with format. Now PEERLA is as only as good as the user, so make sure you get your correct reference. Go check it out. It puts your paper in APA format for you, minus the headings (it does pages, running head, and does your references automatically and citations). That will at the very least get you started. There is a paper and a power point due for the first class, so make sure you are comfortable with both. Is your study buddy good at paper writing? What about a co-worker? I found a co-worker to look over my first paper and also ran it past Pandora. I still struggle a bit with papers, but I can at least hold my own.

Neither one of us have had to use an online tutor, though GCU does offer examples of papers.

Pandora is correct about buddying up for classes. We are essentially joined at the hip, lol. We met on AN and decided to take this journey together. The advisors are really good about keeping us together. We even get on the same group projects. We ask the instructor privately, and so far they have allowed us this opportunity. This can be invaluable if you have a few slacker groupies or those that don't have strong writing skills. We know we can depend on the other to get through the project. We figured that out with the second class. I wish we would have known it the first class!

If you ever want to email me you can, just pm me and I will send it to you.

Hi pandora!!

The book in stats was not helpful... At all... In my opinion. I survived that class by using google, a lot of times you could get more help that way. I can't remember who taught the class but he was pretty good about helping, I think he knew the book sucked. The class wasn't that bad, no need to stress over it!!

Thanks for the congrats! Super excited to be done! Good luck to you pandora, let me know if you have other questions!

Hi guys, I just found this thread today...actually freaking out over this Stats class and looking for resources. I have discovered the exact things things this week, the books/resources suck and Google is my best friend. I am a stickler about my grades, trying to keep a 4.0 but simply want to pass this course. If you have any other pointers you come up with that may help me along, feel free to PM me. As I said, I feel like Google has gotten me through this first week...eek!

My buddy is in the boat as I. She has been out of school for a while as well. I do have a neighbor with a masters in education that I may call upon if I run into problems. Thanks for the advice.

BTW: what's "PM me" mean? I am new to this website.

private message. :)

Having an educator would work if they are familiar with APA format. Check out Owl Purdue and also the APA website. Both are informative.

Starting Professional Dynamics on July 29th. Nervous... How is this class? What does it consist of? Is there a lot of paper writing? Is there a lot of reading? Are there any group projects? What should I expect? How should I prepare? Is it intense? What has been the easiest class so far?
