Grand Canyon RN-BSN

Nursing Students Online Learning

Is there any updated information? I have been in heavy contact with them and am looking at taking their RN-BSN program. I work with a GCU grad and she has nothing but positive things to say, but I want more opinions. ?

Any pro's and cons? Thankfully the only class I'm missing is stats and that is offered in the actual BSN program. I'm a bit nervous as my algebra skills are way old. If anyone took this class, do you have any advice?

Hi gikg,

I am currently in the 7th class of the program. Don't stress too much. This first class will introduce you to the world of online group projects. That is probably the part that is my least favorite (well, besides stats and the research class that I just finished one week ago). You will also be writing in APA format but I imagine that having just graduated from ns you will be a little ahead in the game. The group project is a PowerPoint by the way, and the success of your group is dependent on how everyone gels together. That is one thing that I've found....every single group project I've been on always has an individual or two that don't pull their weight. It is maddening, and my suggestion to you is to keep on top of the project. I am fortunate that I have a buddy in the program (we met on allnurses!) and we manage to keep things straight.

The discussion questions aren't terribly hard but you have to keep on top of them because you have to answer the first one by Wednesday and the second one by Friday, as well as participating to two classmates on three separate days of the week. Of course, you can prepare your responses ahead of time and just post as needed. Good luck in the program. Try to get a buddy if you can because it will make your life a bit easier. ;)

I start this Monday!! ouch!!! First week does not look so bad, and yeppers a group project right off the bat, good times, lol I suck at papers, so I'm expecting a rough go at the beginning, but like anything else, the more you do it, the better (hopefully) you will get at it. Best of luck

Flames9_RN - Oh yes, you will be a pro at writing papers and APA style after doing a couple of them. Good luck!

I had the same experience with group projects. There was even one class where a student failed to acknowledge their assignment. Long story short, their part of the project never got completed even after the instructor was able to get in contact with them. This individual received a zero for the project while the rest of us got A's for completing our assigned parts.

It must be a group project phenomenon. My research class just ended last Sunday. We had one person that did absolutely nothing to prepare for the PowerPoint presentation. We did shout outs to her on the team forum and total silence. She showed up a few hours before we had to post, and never mentioned a word....no apology, no nothing! :banghead: I do wonder how she was graded.

Gikg - I made a mistake....I'm only on the 6th class of the program (NRS 437 = Ethics). I got a little ahead of myself, lol.

Oooops!! I am in the 7th course. One of the classes dropped off on LoudCloud so it looked like I was only on the 6th course. Duh!!! :wacky:

Did you inform the instructor of the situation?

Totally agree with the buddy system. GCU will attempt to keep you together. My buddy has kept me sane the last few months, especially through the group projects when we both wanted to choke a few people. :whistling: But of course I have THE coolest buddy EvEr!

The suspense is killing me. I really hope it wasn't an "A".:sniff:

Oh yeah, she knew, and I wonder what she did about it. She said we didn't have to make up the MIA's missing part of the work. Of course at the last minute the student came through with a slide and saved her butt.

Just finished my Public Health class today *dance party*!! So....Stats starts tomorrow. I reviewed the syllabus, the discussion q's, and assignments. I am officially shaking in my boots! I read somewhere on AN that there were tests/quizzes. Is this true? I didn't see anything that mentioned this on the syllabus.

Thanks everyone for the replies. I just hope all goes well with me. I usually do the work ahead of time. So I am hoping that I will have few days off between classes.

That is what I do. I cram for the first few weeks and usually the last week I can coast a bit. Those couple of days are golden and guilt free!
