Grand Canyon RN-BSN

Published

Is there any updated information? I have been in heavy contact with them and am looking at taking their RN-BSN program. I work with a GCU grad and she has nothing but positive things to say, but I want more opinions. ?

Any pro's and cons? Thankfully the only class I'm missing is stats and that is offered in the actual BSN program. I'm a bit nervous as my algebra skills are way old. If anyone took this class, do you have any advice?

My patho teacher graded my first paper. 93/100. With all the comments she put on that paper I am surprised I passed at all. She told me conflicting things from other teachers. She also banned the words doctor, should, could, will, and they from future papers.

HUH? Did she give you alternatives that are more appropriate? I can see doctor = physician, and they = the researchers, the participants, etc., but what for the should/could? "Shall"? And no will? Is that supposed to be would?

Actually valuable feedback..much better than the profs that don't give any--then u get slammed by another prof later on!

Which is exactly what happened to me, my first assignment in this course came back with so many red track-changes all over the document it looked like a crime scene. Some things I agree with and have added to my "didn't know that before" file, but some things came straight out of the 6th ed APA blue book and I know are correct - but not worth aggravating the instructor over being proven wrong. No thanks. Consistency amongst instructors would be good though, regarding proper format, it gets old having to ask at the beginning of each class "do you want it this way, or do you want it that way"... There should only be THE way. :sniff:

Ugh, I dislike when teacher make up their own APA rules!

One time I needed to communicate with a CLC member and she called me from her cell around midnight (which was fine with me, I'm a night owl). She told me she was out in the driveway inside her car because it was the only place she could get any peace! It wasn't long before her husband came out and asked her what the heck she was doing out there in her pajamas! :roflmao:

It is hard, I give credit to all of you who have little ones on top of all the other stuff we manage. When I get stressed out and think I can't take it one more minute, I think of you and all the other parents that seem to get it done. Hats off to all of you, really, it's impressive. :inlove:

Thanks! I sometimes wonder how I have survived. Especially when I was getting my ADN! Luckily I didn't work then. My hubby is a HUGE help. He's a teacher, so is off evenings and weekends to be with the munchkins. Sad that they have to go to before and after school care on the days I work, but what can ya do?!

So as you all know, I am in my first class, Prof nursing.. this first paper on ADN vs BSN competency levels.. blah. Sounded easy enough to research. I have taken the library tutorial, tried to do webinar and it never opened, so Saturday I will call the library and talk to a real human. I have emailed them and gave me detailed instructions to find what I am looking for but everything that is in my results does not contain specific info regarding why a BSN is more competent than an ADN specifically in patient care. It is all about the differences in ADN vs BSN school instruction, and this assignment is asking for specific situations to describe the competency levels!! Some of the stuff I find looks good then the results are the same.... and that is not what they want to hear....I did not wait til last minute to start this... really.. just spend every day I am not working on it and then some.. any suggestions? Sorry for the long vent.

I used the AACN fact sheet as a source (it's also under the course material) and found a couple of articles that I will PM you. As for the care situation example I used my own example from a practice change we made in our workplace and how the BSN could facilitate that whereas an ADN might not know how or have the resources to do so (if that makes sense).

Thanks RN0511 and PrismRN for your help. I worked on that paper all day, hard to sit still for long periods of time. Torture. Its in the professors hands now. Today I just felt like sludge and exhausted and here I am tonight getting ready for this new weeks Dairy Queens lol. This week is the CLC so I pray that we all work together and it goes smoothly.

I finally emailed my student advisor and asked about ordering the nursing pin. I wasn't sure if I would want it. It isn't like I do anything with my ADN pin, and don't think I would really do anything with my BSN pin. Yet, I just decided that I MIGHT want to get it. I want something that says I went through all of this for some reason. I guess the diploma will say that once it comes...

Well my advisor had no clue what I was talking about... so who knows if I will be able to order one.

Grade back on that paper yet? Did it turn out okay? And the CLC? One of our CLC members apparently dropped the class and no one knew 'til tonight...CLC is due in 3d! Dang!
