Grand Canyon RN-BSN

Published

Is there any updated information? I have been in heavy contact with them and am looking at taking their RN-BSN program. I work with a GCU grad and she has nothing but positive things to say, but I want more opinions. ?

Any pro's and cons? Thankfully the only class I'm missing is stats and that is offered in the actual BSN program. I'm a bit nervous as my algebra skills are way old. If anyone took this class, do you have any advice?

Gotta agree with Prism,

Being one of the crusty old bats, it's a now or never thing with nursing. The tide is turning in my area of the woods and if I want to get a job in the cities (which will remain nameless, cuz co-workers lurk) I have to have that BSN. Like Prism, I was happy in my ADN-ness but not now. This forum helped propel me forward to my BSN, because I saw struggling nurses. I also had to wait 3 months to find a job when I went back into nursing because I didn't have that BSN. One hospital near me that I had previous employment with and left in good standing did not want me back because of my ADN! It's only BSN.

Looking back, those 15 months have gone quickly, even those CLC projects were doable and I met some nice people too. :)

My advisor only calls me for payment for the next class, LOL! Welcome Murse! I am just starting the second class so you will not be far behind me! I took a break to catch up on my life! I am happy with my decision to go to GCU. I really like that it is one class at a time and that the classes are 5 weeks long. I also like that I have no general education courses and no timed tests as of yet! My first CLC went pretty well so it was kind of a nice break from researching/writing for essays. Glad we have these great people on AN for support!

Thanks!! Five week clases played a part in selecting GCU. I'm looking forward to starting and picking your brain over the next "few" months.

Because of the restrictions on my employer's tuition reimbursement (and my own sad bank account that can't really supplement), I will only take 5 classes in the year 2014 (yay extended summer break!), which will leave me 4 classes to finish up in 2015. So, assuming you're on the fast-track with no huge breaks to speak of, we may be finishing up around the same time - heck we may even find ourselves in some of the same classes around that time!

While I am hoping to roll through, I know I must remaing realistic, it seems as though a break is needed after stats. However I'm accustomed to short breaks inbetween semesters so I think (hoping) I can maintain the pace. Considered trying to double up on the first two courses, still undecided and Ive read many opions about taking two classes at once. Awesome if our class paths cross.

I think someone on here stated that one can't double up on classes right away?? No clue if that is true or not. Not sure why not as the first few are pretty straight forward.

I'm in no hurry to finish! Just had a month off and will probably take more time off after this class. But everyone's situation is different.

Thanks for the info.

don't take my word for it, I'm sure ur student counseller knows more, lol

From what I heard you can double up after class 4 or 5.

Understood Flames.

Thanks Sunshine, one course at a time is probably best. I once took a 5 week nutrition course and 5 week chemistry class (online) completely with (not your matel brand) chemistry set at the same time. You had to sign a release not to use contents in a manner for which the set was not intended. I should have thought twice when my academic advisor asked multiple times if I was sure I wanted to go this route. Some people (me) just can't take a hint. Lol
