Grand Canyon RN-BSN

Published

Is there any updated information? I have been in heavy contact with them and am looking at taking their RN-BSN program. I work with a GCU grad and she has nothing but positive things to say, but I want more opinions. ?

Any pro's and cons? Thankfully the only class I'm missing is stats and that is offered in the actual BSN program. I'm a bit nervous as my algebra skills are way old. If anyone took this class, do you have any advice?

I'm off for the weekend, camping. Yes round one did not go bad. Round two may be ugly sitting here with fever and aches, but we already paid (Yellowstone). I've always wanted to camp in Yellowstone....oh and it's going to snow...an excuse to stay in bed?! Hehehe.

How are all you 'lopes doing heading into the weekend, I'm probably going to be out of range for most of it! :cat:

The past 2 weeks my laptop has been having uncontrollable seizures, sometimes the blue screen of death and other times giving a quick error message (that disappears quicker than I can read the whole thing) saying something about my hard drive. The computer Gods are definitely with me, can you imagine if this was happening 2-3-4 weeks ago?? I shudder to even think about it.

Yes I can. You probably would have been a raving lunatic like I was when mine crashed. But to have it crash IN THE CAPSTONE would have been mind boggling horrible!

Love Yellowstone! Make sure to see the falls.

Hope you feel better soon.

What kind of camping do you do?

Happened to my friend a few weeks back in week 2 of Capstone!! She took it to some computer tech place and they managed to save everything and fix her laptop.

If I want to move closer to family, both states my daughters are in, require BSN, or so they say. I don't anticipate either moving back home to our state... this is a huge motivation for me.

It's a HUGE motivator. I was looking at local area hospitals last night, because I was bored. A staff nurse on a med/surg floor needs a minimum of two years experience and a BSN highly preferred.

That means if an ADN is applying for the same position, she can pretty much kiss her chance good bye.

All the other postings REQUIRED a BSN, such as case management but PREFERRED a MSN.

Sigh..I'm behind the eight ball again! :(

I have been suprised in how many older nurses that have been in the program, I mean ones nearing retirement age. Some have stated it is something they have always wanted to do..while others have stated they were told get the BSN or be out of a job!

Remind me what I should be reviewing before I start. I know I downloaded some sites way back when, but seriously, I need a reminder as to what you all did to be prepared to start. Grammerly? The site that sets up your papers? Etc?

I have Grammarly and really found it pretty much useless..helped a tiny bit.....I would use it, then my wife would proof read it...she would still find alot of errors

Perrla..awesome...You still have to know which "source"" it is, to get the proper format..but that is easy to do! What I loved about Perrla--is that it saves ALL the sources..so late ron down the road, that info is already there. I am not being smug, "trust me", but from what I have read about PEERLA, it is how we were taught to create papers in HS... but remember, I AM OLD!

I am spending today reviewing your sources and suggestions. I sooo apprciate.

I only used this for Capstone..but found it very useful--RefWorks..Which is FREE at the GCU Library..Research & Resource | Library | Grand Canyon University Library It helps organize your sources..make folders for each paper..each class....Very handy for Capstone.....I think it also has the capability to make APA citations...but not sure about that.

As well what may be handy is learning how to search effectively...GCU library offers online tutorials Tutorials | Grand Canyon University some are always available, and then they also offer webinars that u have to sign up for. The CINAHL is a good 1 to look over.
