Grand Canyon RN-BSN

Nursing Students Online Learning

Published

Is there any updated information? I have been in heavy contact with them and am looking at taking their RN-BSN program. I work with a GCU grad and she has nothing but positive things to say, but I want more opinions. ?

Any pro's and cons? Thankfully the only class I'm missing is stats and that is offered in the actual BSN program. I'm a bit nervous as my algebra skills are way old. If anyone took this class, do you have any advice?

I have spent my evening googling - I think my middle name is now google!

Think I have it.

Readiness for enhanced knowledge to provide lactation support in the workplace related to employed mothers of infants and changes in the law.

About to head to bed, 0100 here. When I get up in the morning will read it again and see if I need to tweak it. There is something that doesn't seem right to me right now. Not sure if there really is something I am missing or just tired brain mush.

THANK YOU all!! I really appreciate all the support here. :)

Thanks again Pink! I am sure you have a wealth of experience that would have brought something interesting to a very boring paper. Three wonderful nurses already helped me out!

That has been one of the hardest part of school for me. I'm not working as a nurse and I only talk to one person from my ADN.

I think my sister should get an honorary award because I've interviewed and assessed her so many times!

I'm going to order my GCU nursing pin soon. I think it will help me keep an eye on the prize! OK back to work for me.

I do not have vast experience that the others do. So glad this is such a supportive community. Best to you!

It is a teaching experience, correct? Why not use: knowledge deficit R/T whatever AEB Whatever

Worked for me. I also provided a wellness diagnosis: Readiness for enhanced knowledge.

Again, worked for me. Not going to put in 2 hours of work on a nursing diagnosis.

So the statistics class opened up today and I wasn't lucky enough to get one of the recommended instructors. I looked through the class and am not sure if I should be worried. The things that worry me are, I have not found tutorial youtube videos that others have mentioned having. There are KhanAcademy videos, but haven't watched any yet. What does bother me is there is very little announcements to read. She does not state expectations, except once she said "as per GCU policy".

I will continue to look throughout the weekend, but I am not sure that I will take this class from this instructor. Any suggestions from someone that has been there? Math doesn't worry me, varied and inconsistent expectations worry me.

I'm finishing up that class this week. Never thought I would get through it but it wasn't too bad. The actual mathematical problems are fairly easy and there are only usually 2 to 4 a week so it's manageable. The hardest part for me was the workbook. They give you a portion of an actual research article and a table with the results and questions about it. I found it challenging. Maybe it was just me, I'm sure you will get through it just fine.

Regarding stats:

* sometimes a prof that's not all that anal about things is a good thing (citing your reference to few announcements with expectations)

* we will steer you toward the videos; unless you got one of the two instructors who were the actual creators of those videos they would not be mentioned in your class

* the Kahn videos turned my brain into a pretzel. I watched a few, had no clue, couldn't grasp it, and moved on

* the trick to those word problems (workbook) is to do the practice one first. Work your way through them (no peeking at the answers!), see which ones you got wrong, and then figure out WHY you got it wrong. Once you've got that, the actual assignment word problem is essentially the same problem as the practice one with different numbers plugged in

My advice? Just do it LOL. I winged it with an unknown and did fine (well, after bouts of uncontrollable hysteria in which tokmom talked me off the edge of a cliff).

The videos are for doing stats on excel. If someone has never had experience with stats, then those worksheets would be difficult. Can you Google her name on YouTube and see if you get a hit?

The Khan videos were ok. However googling the type of statistics helped me the most. The best chi square help came from some guy in a plaid shirt who had a dry erase board in his living room, lol. He spoke my language. Gotta love Google.

I totally agree with what prism says, minus the cliff part. Her feet were firmly planted on the ground, ;)

Thanks Rob!

Think part of the issue is my brain is going back and forth between the group project, and my individual project. Think sometimes I need to just shut it off and take a break, problem being I get so focused I don't want to walk away. I want to get it done. Things often seem clearer when I do. Not sure why my brain was having a difficult time. Once I got something started that made sense it seemed to flow a bit better.

btw....stats is my next class, so interested to see what you think about it once it gets going.

I know my suggestion is simplistic, but you know we are not writing literary masterpieces here!

I will share my impression of stats with you, promise.
