Grand Canyon RN-BSN

Nursing Students Online Learning

Published

Is there any updated information? I have been in heavy contact with them and am looking at taking their RN-BSN program. I work with a GCU grad and she has nothing but positive things to say, but I want more opinions. ?

Any pro's and cons? Thankfully the only class I'm missing is stats and that is offered in the actual BSN program. I'm a bit nervous as my algebra skills are way old. If anyone took this class, do you have any advice?

What article subject did you do for Research Part I? Have you done your PICO yet? I tried to find articles that were in the same vein as my PICO, so I could pick apart a qualitative and a quantitative and get feedback from the instructor on how I did (of course trying to give myself an edge for the Capstone class LOL). Your PICO doesn't HAVE to be your Capstone project, but if you have a subject in mind this class is where you could start with your article gathering, etc.

Hint: Pick a subject you're interested in and call the library (don't chat, don't email, call!). Tell the person you need "a good, peer reviewed qualitative research article within the last 5 years on ______". I'm telling you those library people are the bomb!

Use the internet Bible if you are not familiar with the Bible, that will help a lot. (Although owning a Bible is always a plus ;)). I have found so far that the word counts are easy, the papers are coming together too. Although I am struggling with the compassion fatigue one (i set it aside a few days ago, getting ready to pick it up here in a few minutes when I get done here, ha!).

What is the stumbling block?

What is the stumbling block?

I can't remember now. And I never opened it today! :nailbiting:

I finished all of Spirit for the week except two more days of school and got a DQ done in ethics, get this it's already graded! I about fell out of my chair! But no word on word count. :nailbiting: :nailbiting:

I also got another paper cleaned up. So productive but still doing the avoidance. I'm thinking it will fly together now that I've cleared my head for a few days, hope so!

Prism is right call the librarian. Have an idea of an area that you are interested in they might be able to help narrow it for you too. Every time I have had interaction it's like they snap their fingers and poof it's there instantly. Better than I could have hoped for, online is just not as accurate you will have to wade through some articles that should have stayed in the rubbish.

Im a Case Manager so it made sense for me to pick an area that had meaning and I had experience, so I understand the concepts. If I was doing ICU nursing I would probably go with oral care on ventilated patients or importance of turns, etc. hope you find something you find interesting. Although my biggest fear is once capstone is done I'm going to hate transitions of care, lol.

Thanks everyone for the pep talk. I think I was just having a bad week or two. Everything was piling up on me and with the holidays I just blew a gasket. I think I am back, well at least I am completing my work.

I know that feeling. I ignored a lot of my house and yard. We have 3 1/2 acres and a 1/4 acre flowers. I'm still catching up on house and yard. Sigh..

It's worth it in the end though, so keep plugging away.

Same here. I have put things off for 3 years for nursing school, now another year before I can get things done correctly.

Hi rob, how about built-in 2 week breaks in between classes? I took 60 days off in the summer, and honestly I wish I hadn't. I'm kicking myself now, because I would be done.

Not a bad idea, but I think I will do 2-3 classes and then take a week or two for myself. If it gets really bad then I will think of this.

So if I had to do over, I would have done one week breaks at most and ground it out sooner rather than later.

Yep, I will do my best.

If you're not in a hurry to get done I suppose a break doesn't hurt. I just fear if I take a break that I would keep putting off getting started again. Some people take a week or so off between classes. The important thing is that you do keep at it and finish. Whatever you decide.....just make a plan you can stick with to finish.

I am not in a great hurry, just want to finish. If I take an extended break now I don't think I will start up again.

I think I might have a good group for the CLC project this class. I am at least crossing my fingers.

So I had a question. In Health Assessment week two assignment, how did everyone cite the entries into the GCU formatted page? The directions state pull everything from the book so did you cite every entry exactly the same way? This is the assignment where you take the 11 functional health patterns and write normal assessment findings and potential problems for each. Wouldn't imagine doing this wrong....... Bad Rob.....
