Is there any updated information? I have been in heavy contact with them and am looking at taking their RN-BSN program. I work with a GCU grad and she has nothing but positive things to say, but I want more opinions. ?
Any pro's and cons? Thankfully the only class I'm missing is stats and that is offered in the actual BSN program. I'm a bit nervous as my algebra skills are way old. If anyone took this class, do you have any advice?
If I'm understanding this correctly, and if you posted it a day late, wouldn't it only be a few points taken off? If we have to respond to 6 classmate's post and you did 4, it's not fair to take off half the participation points.
The problem is that I only realized after she posted my grade on Tuesday. I think we have until Sunday to submit if you post after it does not count. Oh well I am just hoping my both CLC grades will be enough to keep my A.
I'm just curious, what can a person do to start thinking ahead for capstone? Should we be thinking of our topic for our paper and choose our articles now accordingly? I would like to be as prepared as I can be for this big project and I'm sure everyone would appreciate any feedback you grads can offer!
I know for myself that in the first week of research it was clear that the topic that would fit best with my current position, and has the most documentation jumped off the page. I beat that topic to death in Research. I have about 5-7 good articles based on that class. Today I was up on the peds floor and this magazine popped off the desk...I went over and copied the cover of the magazine, and the article. Will have to take the time to read it to see if it fits but it is looking good. I figure in the next 5 months if I can be doing this when it comes to capstone I should have a major piece of work done (I hope).
I'm not a grad yet...I'm just a girl with high expectations of myself who is drop dead tired from a whirlwind of a year in a program I swore I wasn't gonna do. It's a lot of work, and I would recommend continuing to focus and do really well in the classes you're taking now because the more you understand and are familiar with the research, the better it will be for the capstone. If you have an idea of what you want to do for the final class, gathering an article or two each week can help with preparation. There are things that will become clearer once you have the syllabus and are given instructions from the professor. But the foundation of the capstone is to research 15 articles that describe the problem or issue and support the proposed solution.I'm just curious, what can a person do to start thinking ahead for capstone? Should we be thinking of our topic for our paper and choose our articles now accordingly? Passed STATS with a 95.7% !!!! So glad that is behind me now!!! Currently in week 2 of intro to nursing research and still dont have any grades from week 1. makes me nervous to not know what kind of grading to expect when im almost going into week 3. UGH! Any suggestions or recommendations for intro to nursing research??
Congrats on doing well in stats!! I'm sure you will do fine in nursing research. This is the class where you will write your PICO statement, and the class I feel ties into capstone. You do not have to use this PICO for the capstone, but if you do, you can make it be something you will be interested in doing for the final capstone. You are cruising right along...you're halfway there!!Passed STATS with a 95.7% !!!! So glad that is behind me now!!! Thank you so much! Yes halfway there. When I finish with this class I am taking a break. Getting mentally exhausted. I'm sure most of you know how I'm feeling! Also I'm starting a new job that helps with tuition reimbursement so my counselor worked it out where my new job will pay for my last 4 classes. So this will save myself about 5K! Super excited about this! Sucks I'm taking a break but financially in the long run its what's best for me!
The amount of writing is ridiculous. The instructor posted our grades today for the 1st week of class, and so far so good. Trying to figure out how the paper is going to tie together in the end is what is giving me the headaches. I decided I cannot work ahead, and I have to take it one week at a time. Eventually I will get to the end, lol.
First paper is the beginning, second in the middle and so on. You literally blend them together in a cut and paste fashion.

Articles..Articles..Articles..have then ahead and know them. You need fifteen total with eight minimum research based and the remainder peer reviewed. I had mine three months prior and read them a few times over.
You need to develop a project, so think how you're going to sell that to management in the form of an executive summary PowerPoint, etc. You need to know the supplies needed, roll out, and measuring the project. You also need to think how you would roll this out either statewide or organizational wide.
I know this comment is probably the lone orange cheeto on top of Mount Everest, but this project once finished, is something everyone will be proud of :-)
And nope, prism, I'm never going to let you live that comment down lol. :-)
For those that have yet to take the Research class, or those currently in it...
I was just perusing jobs on the internet and ran across this statement in "position requirements":
-Utilize nursing research and literature in practice.
This, in my opinion, is proof that the nursing profession is progressing beyond the mindset of nurses being "task masters" and requiring us to be knowledgeable and accountable for the care that we provide, the rationale behind it, and the expectation that we will move healthcare forward in terms of quality and outcomes. I'm kicking myself a little for not investing more interest in the class. As I look back, there was much more reading and participation I could have mustered, and rather than focusing on just getting the assignments done I could/should have really drilled down deeper so it "stuck". In reading you guys' comments on the capstone and the research required, I'm getting a little nervous that I wasn't "all there" during that class. Now it may not only bite me in the behind for the Cap, but for the next job I apply for!
So, in the Pearls of Wisdom category for the week, let us all remember that we're not doing this just to get those 3 all-important letters; we need to be cognizant of what we are learning and make it matter, because it does matter. To us, and most importantly for those we will serve in the future. Getting our BSNs is making us better nurses, I don't care what poo-poo's we may get from our coworkers, family members that wonder why we are doing this, and even from some AN fanatics that have all-too-much to say about the ADN vs. BSN vs. MSN vs. APRN debate. What we are learning is making us part of the solution for our broken healthcare system.
