Is there any updated information? I have been in heavy contact with them and am looking at taking their RN-BSN program. I work with a GCU grad and she has nothing but positive things to say, but I want more opinions. ?
Any pro's and cons? Thankfully the only class I'm missing is stats and that is offered in the actual BSN program. I'm a bit nervous as my algebra skills are way old. If anyone took this class, do you have any advice?
I do not have any children at home, nor do I do much outside of work. Mostly because of preference. I love to visit my children..see a friend now and then.. but I am not in need of weekly gatherings. So, I hope given that, I will have enuf time!
Hey pinkpetunia, if you don't mind me asking, are you still a bedside nurse doing your obligatory 3 twelve hour shifts each week? If you don't feel comfortable then you don't need to answer.
Rob, I am happy to answer. I work in Pulmonary Critical Care, Clinic.I take the telephone triage calls. I work for 9 specialists. I work 4, 10 hour days. The MD's work in the hospital's ICU and in a specialty hospital near us--- Where ppl should be in intensive care. But given they are stable so to speak, yet critically ill, they go to this hospital.
Our MD's do see clinic patients, but, it is the least of their concern and of course, what they avoid. We have anywhere from 4-8 of them in clinic on any given day. We always have an MD to text or call if another is off or away. We make many independent decisions, every day. We have protocol, but given their absences.. we do make many medication decisions on our own.. Including INR/Coumadin decisions...
We have three pulmonologists that are also experts in sleep disorders. They work at the Sleep Clinic as well.. CPap, BiPap.. etc....
Yes.. I have patients who want me only.. which can be a pain in the neck/but I realize I am a help to them.

Very cool. The point I was going to make was GCU is busy, and at times frustrating, but you will have the time to do this.

I am sure you remember being under the gun in bedside nursing and what you needed to do or change to keep up and get things done. This is just about the same. Time management at its best. You hear us ******* and moaning about how long it took us to do this or that but in the overall scheme of things, we are just full of hot air. Yes, I spent 16 or more hours finishing and cleaning up the Power point CLC project, but that was my choosing and I found a way to do it. I (we) just meet here to share war stories and share a laugh or two (at our classmates expense) just to either ask for help or make it enjoyable.
I apologize if some of my complaining seemed like horror stories to you. It really isn't compared to nursing school at least. The problems I have had with the instructor in class has been cleared with a simple email. Other things like complaining about instructor participation doesn't mean squat in the long run. In my mind, in the real world, what I think would further my education isn't what the instructor or GCU necessarily believes. I am just here putting in my time and learning everything I can along the way.
I am bowing out.. even tho I got a super counselor.. I am not willing to put up with the daily headaches you all have.I don't mean to generalize.. but more that not.. professors are not answering questions, reporting grades in a timely fashion.. they claim to have high standards but that should be for both the student and professor.
So if you do this then come here and share, ask for advice, and laugh a little. Support can make everything better and tolerable. The group here have helped me so much.
BTW, Fred is my donkey, don't touch my donkey.
Rob, I can assure you, I won't touch Fred! Felicity is turning into a labor intensive donkey. She expects treats as we wind down into the canyon at regular intervals. Fussy and sassy.
I don't know how to do a power point. Nor do I even understand that assignment at all. There are words I will have to look up on dictionary.com. I do have access to an IT review I can do.. but I hope someone in the group knows how to do it and/or can collaborate with me. I again, hesitate.. not sure I can do this.
I am sorry to be so wordy about my job. I get that way late at night. I am embarrassed as I overshared. Bedside nursing is not for me any longer, I could not keep up that pace physically or mentally. I suspect most of you all are hospital nurses and probably much more up to date.
My plan is to give this a try, if I don't try I will never know!

I think I did sign up for a Perrla trial.. for a month.. After that there is fee which I am more than willing to pay.
If you do a paper on word, do you just download it to Perrla?
