Grand Canyon RN-BSN

Nursing Students Online Learning

Is there any updated information? I have been in heavy contact with them and am looking at taking their RN-BSN program. I work with a GCU grad and she has nothing but positive things to say, but I want more opinions. ?

Any pro's and cons? Thankfully the only class I'm missing is stats and that is offered in the actual BSN program. I'm a bit nervous as my algebra skills are way old. If anyone took this class, do you have any advice?

I was told I could not speak to another counselor.

I don't know pink. If I were having all the challenges you have experienced with this I would probably check out other options. My feeling is that you already have a bad taste with GCU. Maybe a fresh start is necessary for you. I know I'd be hesitant to trust in something that has been such a struggle.

That is my feeling. I don't know if it is because I am a 3 yr. diploma RN from years ago.. or if it is my age.. but something has been working against me this entire time.

Do not forget, NOW I can choose my counselor!

Do they really let you select a professor? If I can't change admission ppl, I highly doubt I can select a professor.

Sure they do. Why would they not?

As for your other problem, I still don't understand the issue. You mention English but is that all there is that is the problem? I have known diploma and others with a four year degree have no problems.

You may want to check into if GCU can't accept your credits.

As for knitting, I love to knit. :) Keeps me sane.

My problems are mostly related to delays.. and after I looked into things.. GCU had the info for some time... this happened 3 times. No one got the information together to address my acceptance.. everything had to be a push by me.

I am sorry not to elaborate.. but clearly just know, I was disappointed with my admission counselor, she was not doing things on a timely basis. The school did agree this was the case. I submitted something.. again.. it was ignored, lost, no one could find it. Frosting on the cake.. If you don't believe me so be it.. but I think there a huge push to get this particular counselor off the ground and I was the guinea pig.

Pink,

Why do you keep thinking we are GCU employees? Who would tell us we "can't talk to you?" The reason we can't offer any further advice than what we have is the fact none of us ever experienced this.

I had a couple enrollment counselors myself and I even used Pandora's (my gcu buddy I found on AN). If I needed help, I would call. Calling gets you anyone which is good for simple things. I know that Pandora had a counselor she wasn't too keen on and she was firm with switching and they did.

As for paperwork getting lost, was any of it sent electronically? GCU took care of all my paperwork for me. All I did was fax my stuff to a counselor and I waited to hear back. It probably took 6 weeks for everything to be accepted. I chose to not start until everything was ok'd.

I'm very confused on your start date, syllabus issue etc..I thought your first day was going to be on Monday?

Anyway, if you start or decide to go elsewhere, well..that's up to you. None of us can decide for you. I think we have a pretty good support system and I plan on being around here for a long time, helping others get through this program. However, YOU have to feel good about attending ANY school and taking the time and energy to do so.

pinkpetunia,

I'm confused, you say you can choose, then you report you can't, now you say again you can choose your counselor. ????

I apologize that I don't reply to you very often, but personally I often have a hard time following what you are conveying. So rather than confusing the situation more with my possibly incorrect interpretation, I just stay out of it.

It seems to me that GCU would let you change counselors in order to keep your enrollment active. If you explain that you will choose another school if you can't change, that may help. Are you asking to speak to the superior/manager of your counselor?

It never entered my mind that you were GCU employees? Did I say something to make you feel that way?

I am sorry to tell you, THEY WOULD NOT.. let me change admission counselors.. even tho I asked very early on.

They continually state they have not gotten my transcripts.. can not find them.. they had to walk from desk to desk

to try to figure out where they were? And even now, can not locate a transcript I sent from a University of

Wisconsin School.. that I have requests, paid for and sent x 3.

Today, after total withdrawal, I now can select my enrollment counselor.. and what can they do to make this up to me? Today, 10/17 is the very first day they have suggested they are willing to allow me to change my counselor.

I do not understand, where much of your responses are coming from. I never thought any of you were GCU employees, nor did I mention until today.. they are telling me I can switch counselors if I want to... I only got that info at 4 pm this afternoon...

I say this because you asked us if we were told to not talk to you.

Do you ever call the counselor and tell them the stuff was faxed to them and then ask for a receipt and acknowledgement and tell them you will be calling back at certain time?

What do you want?

Am a bit confused. They did not hear me initially. Now I am not so sure I have the support system I had hoped for.

I will think over the weekend.

Good night.
