Grand Canyon RN-BSN

Published

Is there any updated information? I have been in heavy contact with them and am looking at taking their RN-BSN program. I work with a GCU grad and she has nothing but positive things to say, but I want more opinions. ?

Any pro's and cons? Thankfully the only class I'm missing is stats and that is offered in the actual BSN program. I'm a bit nervous as my algebra skills are way old. If anyone took this class, do you have any advice?

I'm in the process of talking with an enrollment counselor at GCU. I am enrolled at a community college to take stats this fall but if I sign up with GCU should I go ahead and take stats with them. I don't know anything about stats and am wondering if it would be better face to face. On the other hand when I think of taking it for a whole semester while taking classes at GCU that sounds like a lot of work. Any advice would be appreciated!

I agree with tokmom, the class at GCU is healthcare focused, which makes the whole concept easier to understand IMO because you can apply it to the familiar. I took it @ GCU a couple classes ago, and honestly it wasn't as bad as I feared it would be. It was no picnic, but hey it was 5 weeks! I can only give you my opinion of course, but if I had that decision to make, I'd go with the 5 week class w/ GCU. Unless it's a money-driven decision, because a CC class would be tons cheaper than the GCU version. But for me, I can't imagine taking anything that's a semester long concurrently with this program (and working, I presume). No thanks! :dead:

Thanks for your responses. If I do take it at the CC, do I need to replace it at GCU with another class since it is on my list of 12 classes? I think I am leaning towards GCU because I can't imagine homework from 2 difference schools at the same time!

I don't think you do, because others here are only taking 10 and 11 classes. I wasn't that lucky, lol.

I know someone who took community health prior to GCU so didn't have to take GCU version but did have to choose a replacement class

And others are only taking 10 or 11 classes. Go figure

I must be missing posts, because I did not see purples post of being finished and I don't seen anywhere that said that you didn't applaud her success...

Anyway, Prism was teasing with her imaginary island. We made that up a few months ago to ban those that could whip out a paper in hours and leave us in the dust. It may seem warped to those not familiar with the theme of these threads, but we like to have fun here too. It's our way of relieving stress and supporting each other in a fun way.

I also think she was attempting to be helpful with the fall start date. When I read that, I too was worried you thought you could not start until then. I didn't know that GCU had rolling start dates until I talked to an advisor.

You are more than welcome to hang with us. We are a very supportive bunch and will cheer you on and help with assignment questions when we can.

Crud, I need to be banned :whistling:

And I am not seeing certain posts either!

Most likely, no. I had done patho at my CC prior to starting GCU and didn't have to take another class. So my 11 classes are taking me roughly 13 months to complete, and that is only with the 2 week break at Christmas time, no breaks between classes.

I don't think you all missed any posts, I didn't announce that I was finished with GCU and graduated in an individual post, I mentioned it by replying to someone else's post.:D

Has anyone gotten through the capstone project? How difficult is it? Is it much worse than normal classes?

It's a busy class with some weeks having two or three projects due. The final paper is a compilation of all of them. I think the lit reviews are the worst

Just finished it! It's a bit busier in the beginning but about the same amount of work as the other classes. If you know what your topic is going to be right away or before you start it will go faster.
