Grand Canyon RN-BSN

Published

Is there any updated information? I have been in heavy contact with them and am looking at taking their RN-BSN program. I work with a GCU grad and she has nothing but positive things to say, but I want more opinions. ?

Any pro's and cons? Thankfully the only class I'm missing is stats and that is offered in the actual BSN program. I'm a bit nervous as my algebra skills are way old. If anyone took this class, do you have any advice?

I so very sorry if I hurt you in any way.

In any event, I will continue to post.. and know I am a good person.

I have no plans to make anyone feel bad or hurt. I have no plans to

demean another person, ever... I just want to be a part of this thread.

I got a shocking note that my posts need to now be reviewed... IDK.

Just curious if most of you go straight through or if taking breaks is recommended. I plan to go straight through just because I'm looking forward to enjoying next summer without papers looming to be done.

Another person and I went straight through except for two, two week breaks to get the instructors we wanted. :)

Prisms posts suggesting PEERLA etc have nothing to do with some sort of weird audit from AllNurses. You do know the university has NOTHING to do with this thread. I'm not even sure if they know we exist, lol. We are a group of nurses who have decided to go to GCU and I started this post two years ago looking for support. This thread is no different than any other college thread on AllNurses.

Are you sure you were reported? I have no idea why, because nothing you have said here is inflammatory. I can't think of anyone here that would do such a thing.

As for the APPS, we talk about those all the time. I think they were mentioned well over a year ago so again, Prism has nothing to do with this.

Apparently I have been reported to authorities.. given I questioned a few things. I regret what I said...

Of course.. now I can not post. I don't understand this. I am sorry for whatever I did to cause someone to report

me.

What do you mean you cannot post. You are posting now! I'm confused.

Oh and your feelings have changed for GCU? Again, this thread has nothing to do with them. It's not endorsed or even known about.

Yes, there's an automatic 2 weeks built into whatever class you're in at the time, making it a 7 wk class. Looking at the calendar, I suspect the 2 weeks will be 12/22-1/4. Your classroom is still up, but you are not allowed to post anything, anywhere. I remember the announcement last year, being a Christian college they take that 2 weeks break seriously, they encourage you to recognize the holiday and spend time with loved ones, etc. Absolutely everything is closed down (no advisors, no IT, no library people, no tutors).

:reef: I :stocking: wish :reindeer: it :christmastree: was :snowman: now... :candy: LOL

I wish it was too, because you would be done!

Thanks for your input PrismRN. I think I'm going to try to stick it out and just keep going. I'm doing the program with a coworker and she is getting really burnt out but I'm afraid if we take a break it'll be that much harder to get back into the swing of it. Do we get a break around Christmas automatically? I thought all classes were 5 weeks always? Stretching a class sounds kinda nice around the holidays!

The break around xmas is very nice, and you literally just stop in the middle of the class. It was nice to use it as catch up. Since I was getting close to my capstone, I forced myself to look up research articles and start getting them organized.

Tell your friend to hang in there. I think we all have hit that wall at one time or another. I know I didn't think I could write one more paper or DQ. She will kick herself if she drops out. Power through and get it done!

Yeah, I'm not the sort to "report" anyone, my motto is 'live & let live'. So no, I didn't do anything, I wouldn't even know how! Rx: Chill Pill PRN

I'm in the process of talking with an enrollment counselor at GCU. I am enrolled at a community college to take stats this fall but if I sign up with GCU should I go ahead and take stats with them. I don't know anything about stats and am wondering if it would be better face to face. On the other hand when I think of taking it for a whole semester while taking classes at GCU that sounds like a lot of work. Any advice would be appreciated!

Can anyone tell me how long it takes to complete this program, best case scenario?

If you need all twelve core classes and go straight through, you are looking at 15 months give or take a month. Some people double up classes and can knock a month or two off, but doubling appears to be very busy and you cannot double until you have proven yourself in the first four classes. Hope that helps! :)

Gosh, that's a hard one. I think I would lean toward the stats at GCU, for ME, because it is aimed at health care professionals and didn't go into long statistical equations.

I knew squat about stats before the stats class. Do I know everything about statistics? Nope, and I won't claim too, however, I learned enough to understand research articles and do minor statistical equations. The stats at GCU sort of dump you into the higher, beginner level of statistics, because the chapters you need to study are in the middle of the book (lol). Doing some reading ahead of time to learn terms and you should be ok. Either one would be a win-win situation.
