Grady RN Residency - Summer 2020

Nurses Job Hunt

Published

Hi everyone! Is anyone else in the process of applying to Grady Memorial’s RN residency program that’s set to start this August?

I may be impatient (?!) but I applied a little over a week ago and have yet to hear back.

Has anyone heard anything back? Or for anyone who went through the process for Winter 2020, how long did it take you to hear back?

Hahaha welcome to the "anxiously-awaiting" party!! ? CONGRATS on interviewing for the externship, that is awesome! I did an externship just this recent Summer, but mine was at my local hospital (not Grady). Externships are wonderful, especially if you've been working as a nursing assistant for some time & are ready to expand your skill set as a future nurse!

And why would applying for ICU be "too bold," of you?! If you know that that's your passion - go for it! During my externship interview, I made it very clear that I wanted ICU. I knew there were nearly 80 other students applying for a spot, and there were only 16 spots available - but I knew I had to stay true to my heart! And guess what?! I landed it! Keep your head up and stay true to your passion.

The waiting game during the quarantine. Nice combo for insanity.

I know certain people look down on eager ICU nursing students but thats exactly what I want. And I hope to do my residency at Gradys ICU. It's harder to get that position without that experience. My interview was the very last in person interview before they had to start using Skype. Fingers crossed. I would like to do acute care DNP after my BSN and this would be perfect path to do it. I'l continue to stalk this thread for constant motivation.

I was rambling and had my cheerleader smile on the entire interview and my fingers have been crossed ever since.

You're definitely on the right path for that. I was thinking of going the same route, acute DNP. I've been an ICU tech for a couple of years and have dreamed of going to Grady as an ICU nurse. Well, I really hope they look more at my resume than pay attention to how I rambled on about nothing during the interview *face palm*

My darn resume has CNA nursing home experience from almost a decade ago LOL and restaurant management. Only thing left to go off is recommendation letters and high GPA. Hope and a prayer indeed for me.

Same! Good luck Bella!

**totally irrelevant note: Between anxiously awaiting to hear back from Grady, coupled with the fact that we're all on quarantine d/t COVID-19 - I am officially going stir-crazy. If anyone would like to update me on how their Friday/Saturday evenings are being spent definitely let me know haha.

I was just obsessing with Grady. My classmates mother tested positive (a nurse) and then my spouses dad tested positive (lives in New York). I just got done with mental health clinical (being held online) where all we did was play jeopardy and then watched a mental health movie together for two hours. I have all of these things on my mind while taking the CMS practice test on mental health on ATI listening to depressing lofi music contemplating about WOW!!. ??? but seriously, the world changed in 24 hours soon after my Grady interview, its crazy.

I just opened my eyes a while ago. Worked last night in the quarantined hallway for covid patients. ? As a tech out facility did not allow us to go into those rooms to limit exposure but that has all been thrown through the window now. It's very interesting learning and listening to the protocol for these patients now.

My Friday and Saturday, however, will be spent studying my behind off for an exam. School resumes again on Tuesday. When I'm not studying I am busy running to my phone for every email notification in hopes of finding out something from Grady LOL

Oh no! I'm sorry to hear that ?

Although, at least the mental health clinical sounded fun. And ahahhahaha lofi music is my go-to, too. That and some type of relaxing deep house music, whenever studying.

Stay safe! I must be incredibly lucky because my hospital so far has no suspected COVID patients!

Are you guys doing in-person testing or online? I have my neuro exam coming up this Wednesday and it looks like it's going to be online ?

I've been nonstop reviewing/studying these past few days, so tonight I'm relaxing with a movie and snacks.
