If you graduated in the last 5 years, how long did it take you to find a job?
I graduated in December 2012 with my bachelors. I had a job lined up at graduation. Passed NCLEX 1/2013 and started as an RN 2/2013 on a telemetry floor at hospital #1. Bounced around a little and ended up in med-surg. 7 months ago took a PRN med-surg job at hospital #2 (the grass really was so much greener). Took ACLS and I've been in the ED full time for almost 2 months at hospital #3 (no longer work at hospital #1 and good riddance). I live in MD. Call me a job hopper.
My class of diploma RNs graduated in Dec. 2011. We were encouraged to put in applications the previous October. I had two job offers and was hired (contingent on me passing the NCLEX) in November. It was assumed I would pass as my school had a 100% pass rate and I was to start Jan. 16th. I was only supposed to call my manager if she had to move back my start date so I could retake the NCLEX if necessary, otherwise I was to show up as a new grad.
Only a few people in my class actually had to look for a job after graduation, and they were mostly students who were moving out of state. Everyone had a job within three months that looked for one. This was NOT typical for my area of NC. My school just had that good of a reputation.
