If you graduated in the last 5 years, how long did it take you to find a job?

Great responses everybody.

Specializes in Pediatrics.

I had a job lined up before I graduated with my BSN. Graduated in May, passed NLCEX in June and started my job in July 2013.

Graduated - September 10

Boards - October 23

Hired in Critical Care - February 17

Specializes in critical care.

Graduated last May. Was hired the March before graduation.

Specializes in Family Nurse Practitioner.

I graduated in December 2012 with my bachelors. I had a job lined up at graduation. Passed NCLEX 1/2013 and started as an RN 2/2013 on a telemetry floor at hospital #1. Bounced around a little and ended up in med-surg. 7 months ago took a PRN med-surg job at hospital #2 (the grass really was so much greener). Took ACLS and I've been in the ED full time for almost 2 months at hospital #3 (no longer work at hospital #1 and good riddance). I live in MD. Call me a job hopper.

My class of diploma RNs graduated in Dec. 2011. We were encouraged to put in applications the previous October. I had two job offers and was hired (contingent on me passing the NCLEX) in November. It was assumed I would pass as my school had a 100% pass rate and I was to start Jan. 16th. I was only supposed to call my manager if she had to move back my start date so I could retake the NCLEX if necessary, otherwise I was to show up as a new grad.

Only a few people in my class actually had to look for a job after graduation, and they were mostly students who were moving out of state. Everyone had a job within three months that looked for one. This was NOT typical for my area of NC. My school just had that good of a reputation.

Specializes in geriatrics.

Graduated 2010, made a friend here on AN. Had a job offer before I wrote my RN exam (made contact through the friend) and relocated to a small town from a big city with nothing but a back pack.

Graduated in May 2012 and had a job lined up before then in LDRP/Nursery. I was very grateful, though of course anxious about the NCLEX!

Specializes in Med/surg, Onc.

Graduated Dec 2013-ADN

Passed boards Feb 2014

Hired into hospital of my choice June 2014 ( approx. 220 applications to various hospital systems within 1 1/2 hours of me)

Graduated 2 years ago. Got hired into a "prestigious" unit at my dream hospital one month before graduation. I started work the day after graduation.
