When I started nursing school, a 75 was a C. They did in fact change it on us mid-program. We were not amused.

She does what she does, and nobody has made her stop. Maybe she has authorization to do it, or found a loophole. I just know she is doing it.

I'm in the ADN Program at the local community college, and it's a 7 point scale as well (78=C). But this is a very highly thought of school too. Reminds me of the good'ol high school days

I was wondering if any of the schools mentioned in this post also have the policy of having to achieve a 78% avg on tests alone to pass. No other assignments are counted until the 78% avg on the tests is achieved. We can fail one class but no more or you get kicked out of the program.

My school is an 80% on each exam, not an 80 avg. UGH!!!

Our lowest passing C grade is a 77%. This applies to all courses within the nursing curriculum.

94-100 = A

85-93 = B

80 - 84 = C

79 & below...FAILING and out of program

That's what I'm trying to explain...the grade change is for the new incoming class, it doesn't apply to yours since you are already mid-program. The instructor didn't find a "loophole"...if she is telling you that...she is pulling your leg.

Courts have been very, very clear on this matter...school catalogs are legal contracts because students have a right to know what the criteria is of a program before they apply to the school.

Think about what would happen if such a thing was legal to do...millions of federal aid monies would be wasted if the school constantly changed criteria for courses, grading scales, etc because just when students thought they were ready to graduate..a school can simply change the criteria to force students to take more classes or repeat them.

That is why anytime you get advisement or ask questions to the registrar, they always ask what year you started...b/c that tells them what catalog you fell under.

This is for EVERY school.

Our grading scale is 80% for a C. Must have an 80% avg or better to pass the class, get lower than an 80% in one class then you are out of the program with a chance to re-enter one time only. It is pretty strict, but if you think about it, it makes sense. If I have to be in the hospital, I want my nurse taking care of me to be a good student that passed with a decent grade...its tough for a reason.
