Becoming Charge Nurse in less than a year?
I just graduated in December 08 and started working as a RN in February. I work at a rehabilitation hospital. I love my job and think I am doing pretty well but by any means am not ready to become a charge nurse. A lot of the nurses at my work have told me that they want their nurses to train for the charge position within 6 months to a year. I can't completely say how I will feel at that time but right now thinking about it scares me. What is the criteria at your work place for becoming charge nurse? Do you think this is too soon?

First Job
I just graduated in December and passed the NCLEX the end of January. I am currently waiting for my license. I started my new job on the 9th of Feb. I am working at a rehabilitation hospital. They mainly have spinal cord and brain injuries, along with ortho patients. I have been pretty bored sitting in the classroom part of orientation but the other day we got to get out walk around and meet some of the patients there. Us orientees met a patient that has been in the hospital for 6 weeks who came in with a cervical infection out of nowhere. The patient came to the hospital pretty much as a quad with little gross motor movement in the upper extremities. When we met her she had gained back all fine and gross motor movement of the upper extremities. She also had started feeling some muscle tone and movement in her left quad. She now can lift her left leg and foot up and down. She is now feeling the same in the right but unable to move it now. A week ago they had done an EMG and it showed no activity. I think that this is so great and this is the reason I wanted to be a nurse. I know at times this job will be challenging but it is so rewarding in the end when you can see such improvements. I know not everyone will be able to function at the ability that this woman has. I really think I am going to like this job. Just wanted to spread some positive words.

IM LOSING HOPE...
I was sure I failed too. I had 265 Q, and felt like I guessed on pretty much all of them. I waited 48hrs for the quick results and found out I passed. I didn't believe it. I thought there was no way i passed that. So, hang in there. 48 hrs. was torture enough for me. You are stronger than I to wait longer. I took my exam on the 29th too.

NCLEX 205?
I am in the same boat. I took my NCLEX yesterday and stopped at 265. I know how you are feeling plus I have to work all this weekend. If I find out I failed it will be very hard for me to go into work. I cried immediately after the NCLEX when I realized my friend stopped at 75. I was there for 4 hours and felt like I completely guessed on everything. I had 1 math and 1 sata, tons of meds and priority. Just remember you are not alone in this. I will pray for you. Good Luck!

Just finished NCLEX......
I want to say thank you to all of you that are being so supportive. It really makes me feel better. I just found out that two other people that were in the program with me had received 265 as well and I know the one passed and I am unsure about the other. I will be sure to post my results either way, pass or fail.

Just finished NCLEX......
Yeah I have been trying to stay positive and I have been trying to remember questions and look at answers, not as if it will help but I know if I had got some right it will make me feel better. I couldn't imagine waiting months to know my results. I think I would die!

Just finished NCLEX......
i just got home from taking the nclex and i am feeling very discouraged, which i hear is normal. i took all 265 questions and never felt less confident in my life. i have never been good at exams so i knew that i would come out feeling like i failed but i really feel like i bombed the exam. i knew i didn't want to stop at 75 because i knew that would probably be an automatic fail for me. i really felt so bad i was crying immediately. my friend and i went together and she was done in 75. i took 4 hours and looking back i think i sped through because i honestly did not know the answers. i tried using the strategies learned in kaplan but just couldn't apply them to the format of the questions. it seemed as if once i would eliminate 2 the other two were very similar (both airway, or both cardiac). i had one math question and 1 sata. no hotspots, no drag and drop. mostly priority, alot of meds (alot i did not know and had to guess), who to discharge in a crisis, a lot of diseases (parkinsons, guillian barre, meneire, diabetes, copd, hepatitis, and cirrhosis). procedures considerations, side effects etc. i am really nervous because i have a job waiting for me and i am supposed to start in 10 days. i am so worried of the embarassment of having to tell everyone that i failed and i can't work. i have so many people counting on me and i really hope i don't let them down and most of all myself.

I will be taking the NCLEX on Thursday January 29th. I am starting to get nervous now and did not sleep last night. While I was trying to sleep I had hundreds of things going through my head which were all positive, strangely enough. I just kept thinking you can do this, you are smart, I know I will pass. I am glad that it was positive things that kept me awake rather than negative. My friend and I are going together to Madison, WI to take the NCLEX. We are good support to eachother. We have studied a little together which I think helped because if I didn't understand something she could help me and vice versa. I will be going to madison the night before so I don't have to drive early the morning of the exam. I know I can do it but wish me luck!. I have a job waiting for me that starts in the beginning of February but no pressure lol

RN-BSN program
I was wondering if anyone could recommend a BSN program preferably online. I am graduating from an ADN program on Thursday and would like to get into a BSN program as soon as possible but would like an distance learning/internet program so I can work also.

Graduating...
I am graduating this Thursday and it is finally hitting me. I am so excited and I have worked so hard to get here. I am nervous, scared and excited all at the same time. I am so proud that I stuck with nursing school and made it, to prove to all of those people who thought I would never make it wrong. These last two years I have cried , laughed :chuckle, smiled :), been sleep deprived , and even struggled at times:banghead:. No matter how much you cry or how hard you think it is, never give up. Be strong and positive you will make it through. These two years have gone faster than I have expected. I have made 29 new close friends and family members that have been there for me through all of it. I am so grateful for everything. There truly could not be a better Christmas gift. A Chrsitmas gift to myself that will last a lifetime, my well being for my future!

Failing a student when not receving a failing grade?
The grades in our program are based on points. she had to have a reasonsable amount of points to obtain a "B". For example, it states performs safe medication administration that is 10points so if you make a mistake etc. you will not get the 10points that is just one area. The clinical instructor does write below the areas of improvement. Unfortunately in this case the student performs well and knows what she is doing but she is non-aggressive and I think for that matter she held it against her. I know that being aggressive can be very important in certain situations but i feel as long as the person is performing well and noticing a problem and fixing the problem there is no reason to try and fail the student. She was to go to the ER a week ago and the instructor told her no because the staff in the ER would probably just throw her in a corner, meaning she is not aggressive. I understand this as I am aggressive and try to push my way into things to hone my skills and I have spoken with this student about it and told her if thats what she wants you need to walk up to her and say today if there are any skills like IV starts, NG insertion I want to know so I can do them. I just still don't see how you could fail someone who is passing. Considering we have a evaluation with points , if the instructor did not like the way she performed then she should alter the points to reflect that.
