Grade venting!

So i just took yet another exam (3rd test in 4 weeks 0_0) so far so good im doing well. finally scored a 90 on this one, which is giving me hope to actually aim for an A because my last 2 scores were 88 and 84 (and that was AFTER a couple questions were thrown out) had me a bit skeptical that id be up for the task

im proud of how im doing, especially since it seems that others in the class aren't doing quite as well. I didnt wanna roam around class bragging about my grade so i figured i could shout out my progress here, and welcome anyone else to do the same (or even if you're not doing so well, let out your frustration and your scores where there are no judgmental faces)!

Hope all is well with everyone else, and for those of you that are having trouble, just keep swimming!

I think the answer is "the nurse would know their heart is in the right place"

Grr, why people care about A's? those who are getting 70's should vent. I am getting 70's in all my exams. I am currently failing two courses and maybe a lab. I dunno what to do. I guess I just need help. You should be happy with a B. Nobody will care about your grade, just yourself ;\

If I studied my butt off and only got an 88, I will rant as much as I please. That is what a grade venting thread is for. No one is stopping you from venting as well, but don't put others down because they aren't happy with their grades.

With that said, does your school offer tutoring, open lab, open library hours, or times to meet with your instructor to go over what you're doing wrong? Using all of those resources is a huge step in the right direction, and I can guarantee that that's what some of us venting about B's are already doing.

Study groups! Keep it limited to a few people but they are the reason I am doing so well. I just posted this in another thread but I'll tell you why they are so helpful: say you are studying from an NCLEX book by yourself you read a question and pick out your answer. The rationale makes sense to you but you flip to the answer and you missed it but you don't understand why. With a study group, you can answer the questions together. You say answer 1 is correct and defend your choice but someone else picks answer 2. And their reasoning behind it all of a sudden makes more sense than the answer you picked.

It is also helpful because sometimes your study group will have little memory tricks that will help you remember things. They may be silly, or stupid, or inappropriate little saying by if they help then that's great! These are the people you can text when you have a question or email helpful hints to. These are also the people who understand EXACTLY what you are going through. Because no matter how hard your friends and family say they understand, they just don't unless they've been there themselves. Good luck to you! Keep your head up!

This!!! I highly second this. My study group is small but we all work well together and it's really helped me to "think" like a nurse by rationalizing my answer verbally. When it's just me & a book, I don't get as much out of it.

We had our second test a week ago and I made an 81. At least the grade is headed in the right direction but still not as high as I would like.

Second semester here. First semester I managed As in all my classes and thought I had it figured out how to study and reason and work hard. NOPE! Second semester I am just a few points above pass and I don't know what to do! I also missed a clinical (I was sick) and now I'm stressing about that. My next test is tomorrow and I'm trying the study method of the most successful student in the class. We'll see how it goes.

ordinarily, a B would be perfectly acceptable to me. Heck, in medic school, i was pretty content with my c average (of course, the grading scale was skewed for this program, and an 85 was still considered a C -__-')

but after i somewhat recently came to the decision that i would like to pursue a graduate degree, be it in ANP or cRNA, its imperative that i start getting in as many A's now as i can so i can apply and get into a decent school. I already slacked off on my undergrad science classes that im going to be held accountable for, but i took these classes when i wasn't really even serious about a science major at all, much less a medicine major

so excuse me if i seem pompous or pretentious regarding my desire to make out with an A. I really just want my gpa up to be competitive, and 10 credits worth of A's can go a long way to pushing my gpa up some tasty tenths of a point ^^

I hear you! While my undergrad GPA is excellent (3.95 in sciences & 3.65 overall), I can't afford to lose tenths of points in nursing school if I want to get in to a PA or NP program when I'm done. I'm studying my butt off and barely scraping out an A. My last exam was an 88% and I nearly freaked because I don't want to play the "I have to score X% on this test" game.

It's a fine line. Yes, I'm happy I'm passing, but I'm so stressed over trying to maintain a high GPA to go on after nursing school. It's not like the admissions committee for PA school is going to say "well, she got a B, but it was in nursing school, so that's an accomplishment". They're going to say, "why did she go from nearly straight As to lower grades?"

When the average accepted student for PA school has a 3.6 or higher, it's certainly a valid concern.
