GPA little low

Published

I was wondering if anyone know of any rn schools that except a 2.25 GPA on pre req to get into the program. Any state near CA. It seems school have a 3.0 or 2.75 GPA req on pre req.

Any help on this issue would help thanks

I think you should consider retaking your pre-reqs to improve your GPA. Most schools will let you repeat them at least once. I guess there might be some private schools that would take a 2.25 but I don't know any myself.

I think you will have a very hard time finding a school that will admit with a GPA that low. Your best bet is to retake the pre-req's that you did the worst in. Try taking classes in a different format. If you struggled because you were in the classroom, try taking them online if possible. And vice versa.

You could also try doing the LPN program first and then bridge. Im not from CA but I know nursing programs everywhere are competitive, including the PN programs. But you may have a better chance at LPN. At my school we aren't allowed to retake courses, not sure if this is the case for you. Good luck in whatever you decide.

Well I ended up taking Micro and Physio at the same time ended up with C in both class. I heard they penalize uyou if you retake it

my school needs at least a 3.0!

1) Accept, not except.

2) You will need to retake some classes.

well it's better to be penalized a little and retake it with a fabulous grade than to not retake it and have no shot at getting in. not sure what your school's policy is, but at a few schools around me people only get one or two bonus points for not retaking any classes. if you retook them and got good grades your gpa would be so much higher it would give you a few extra admissions points vs the one bonus for no course repeats.

just a thought-- check with your school. you may also want to re-evaluate your priorities. do you really want to be in school right now? nursing school is difficult and requires focus and dedication. if you're not willing to put in the effort to get good grades in prereqs you will probably not do well in actual nursing courses which need time and devotion. it would be a shame to go through all that and then fail out of nursing school.

i'm not trying to be mean but just giving you a reality check. sure micro and physio are hard classes, but in nursing you will have 3 or 4 classes per semester that are just as hard if not harder than those courses as well as clinicals and all the paperwork and time that goes with those.

are you working too many hours or do you have a family that needs your focus right now? i'm not trying to discourage you, but if you have other things that require too much of your time perhaps you should take care of those first and then return to school when you really have the ability to focus on your grades and studying.

Honestly, I think you might have a hard time getting in with that GPA. The community college in my area use to only require a 2.0 but raised it to 2.5. If you are applying to any college that uses a merit system I can almost guarantee you will not get accepted with those grades; no one in my class had a GPA lower than a 3.0 and 3.6 on pre-reqs. Maybe you should consider re-taking some classes.

Two schools in Memphis,TN minimum requirement is 2.5. Baptist College of Health Sciences and East Tennessee State Univeristy. I think you should retake some of your pre-req's b/c the minimum is the minimum, and minimum sometimes doesn't stand a chance against higher gpas. Especially when it comes to getting into nursing school

Yeah, what they all said.

I would re-take some classes to improve your GPA. My school admits on a merit system and admitted applicants generally have a GPA of 3.8-4.0.

Good Luck!

I agree with some of the others....I think you should definately re-take some of the pre-req's. Nursing school is extremely competitive! I took 23 sem. hours before I applied to the ADN/RN program. My GPA is a 4.0, and it was very competitive for me, even though I did end up being accepted for this Fall. 3.5-4.0 are not really uncommon GPA's anymore.I know that at my school the minimum GPA is 2.5 (but normally it is extremely hard to get in with that low of a GPA.) If you want this bad enough go for it! Re-take some classes...work really hard and don't let anything hold you back!
