Published

i just finished my last prerequisite and i got a c in microbiology. this is the second time i took it! i also took it this past summer and also got a c. i know i could have done better but i had a health condition i was unaware of during that time. recently, in the past few months, i learned how to manage it and i am ready to suceed! in other words, my health problem has a major impact on my gpa for my sciences. i was wondering if anyone knew any schools in california that don't require at least a 2.5 gpa. i have a 2.33 and i can't stop being sad about this! :o i know some colleges allow a minimum of 2.0 gpa. does anyone know any colleges in california that allow a 2.0 minimum? any suggestions would be greatly apprecaited! thank you from the bottom of my heart!:redpinkhe

Hey :)

I don't live in Cali, so I don't know about any local issues, but for my school in VCU the min. requirement for a pre-req was to get a C. Is that the case with the programs you are looking at? If so, then maybe you can just continue to take the other classes needed to boost up that GPA?

Here is a college in Orange County:

They take students from both their points list (based on grades in prerequisites) and from their chronological list each semester. So even if you did not-so-great in the prereques, you still have a chance to get in (eventually).

Try Santa Ana College, great program.

:nuke::icon_hug:Thank you so much!!! Does Santa Anna offer a RN program? Do you know if it's super hard to get in? Thanks again!

i thought 2.5 was a statewide requirement?

:nuke::icon_hug:Do you know if Cypress is hard to get into? Thank you so much for you suggestion!

I thought so too! However, Cabrillo College in Santa Cruz, and Santa Ana College and Cypress college are the 3 colleges I found, which only require a minimum of 2.0. I was so frustrated and sad before I found these 3 schools, especially when the C in Micro was due to a serious health problem I have. A 2.33 is close to a 2.5. There had to be a way! No offense, but I hope you a wrong or my life will be ruined. Thanks for your input though! Thanks for wishing me good luck! I'm going to need all the luck and paryers anyone can give me. Good luck to you too!

I would try Sierra College (Rocklin). They require that you complete all prerequisite courses with a C grade or higher. www.sierracollege.edu. Good luck!

Just apply to all of them. You would be amazed at how soon you will get the phone call that someone dropped out. They just start going down the phone list and offer the spot to whoever they can get ahold of first. Good luck. And really, once you are in school no one cares what your GPA was for your pre reqs. You are only required to maintain a 75% in school and they will bend over backwards to help you remediate if you fall behind.

Yes, but the Wait List for Santa Ana College is now up to about 600 people. And, if you have a low GPA (they admit 24 people a semester from the 30+ list and 24 from the beginning of the "whatever-your-GPA-is" list) you might be waiting several years. In addition, your sciences may expire while you are waiting. Also, at SAC, the "International Students" get priority.

Just FYI, Cabrillo College in Aptos, as mentioned earlier, will require a B in Physiology if you have a C in Micro. Wait list is also 300+ long (years of waiting). Good luck.
