GPA ? I'm so sad! Please help/advice/info

Published

i just finished my last prerequisite and i got a c in microbiology. this is the second time i took it! i also took it this past summer and also got a c. i know i could have done better but i had a health condition i was unaware of during that time. recently, in the past few months, i learned how to manage it and i am ready to suceed! in other words, my health problem has a major impact on my gpa for my sciences. i was wondering if anyone knew any schools in california that don't require at least a 2.5 gpa. i have a 2.33 and i can't stop being sad about this! :o i know some colleges allow a minimum of 2.0 gpa. does anyone know any colleges in california that allow a 2.0 minimum? any suggestions would be greatly apprecaited! thank you from the bottom of my heart!:redpinkhe

might feel like it, but actually 300+ people, which will take years to move through!lol:chuckle

Many nursing schools do have a 2.0 minimum GPA...but here is the problem....there are too many students applying to the nursing programs, especially in California, that have a higher GPA than 2.0...so they take the top grades down, unless you apply to a school that has a lottery.

Not being mean, but understand, that there is a very high correlation between how students do in Anatomy and Physiology and Microbiology vs the nursing classes.

It's not so much as course content, but the intensity of the classes..they want to make sure that only the students that can perform well in the science courses, are admitted to the nursing programs, because statistically, poor science performers do poorly in the nursing program.

They say that if you were an A student before nursing school you'll be a B student IN nursing school...I was an A/B student before, and I'm still an A/B student..however, the WORK that I put into nursing is twice as much as I have done in any of my other classes...I am making the grades because I am putting the effort in.

It's something you have to consider. I personally, would like to be a Pharmacist or a CRNA...but I also know I perform very, very poorly in Chemistry...and guess what you have to be good at to get those degrees? Chemistry.

I'm not trying to be discouraging, but you also need to be realistic.

Hi Mehow and other hopefuls,

I'd like to share my thoughts on this matter: Yes, for the most part, there is a correlation between your success in the science courses and your anticipated success in the nursing program. After waiting 2 years, I got accepted at Golden West and Cerritos College. Initially, I was so scared because my science grades were nothing to brag about let alone post here, but I thinks its important for those who barely passed going into the program to know. I got a C+ in physio and micro, B in anat, A in eng. And... so far, I've completed my first semester with 2A's and 2B's. My class has already lost over a dozen people and some of them had really good grades but did not fare well in clinical. My point is, only you know your strength and weaknesses. Take extra time to study up on areas that you didn't do well on. Make the most of open lab time. Seek out support from your peers and teachers. And when you're in clinical, develope a "curious" mind and seek out opportunities to learn. I was shocked when my teacher told me that I was one of her strongest student because I felt that I entered the program with a weak foundation. So, if you really want it as badly as I wanted to get into the program and do well, you will find a way. All the best guys, because its so heartfelt when I see another one of my nursing sister or nursing brother for that matter, experience a set back.
