Ask your counselor if the school offers academic forgiveness. It is a one time chance to wipe out bad grades that would prevent you from getting acccepted into any program. Some colleges only take grades from their own school into account for your GPA. Transfer courses are not averaged in, just noted as pass/fail.

There are a lot of community colleges around my area (Los Angeles) that go by lottery system. As long as you have completed your pre-reqs with a C or better you have a chance of getting in. Though you would have a better chance if you increased your GPA. Many schools have become very competitive so you may want to try for a school that uses a lotto system while re taking some classes to get your GPA up. I wish you the best don't give up.

what if your cumulative GPA is higher than your pre-reqs?

Take random easier classes to get GPA up and retake science classes.

Short answer: no

Long answer: no

Could probably get it up to 3.0. GPA doesn't matter for other majors, it matters most for anything in the medical field.

You're best chance is to find a program that accepts students based on TEAS scores or something like that. They'll have a cutoff GPA just to be eligible, so you might have to retake a class or two, but if the school goes off GPA alone you have no chance. Good luck!

I was denied and then decided to repeat my chem and bio class to get a 3.5 average. Then I was admitted into the nursing program.

If you're not good enough to be a PA, you're not good enough to be a nurse. Don't feel like I am attacking you personally, but don't think that nursing is a less intense option than any other medical path.

.

Think again sister. Your whole comment made me laugh out loud. What would make you think THAT?

@pooky. If you can't get your sh*t together to do well in any other kind of schooling, what makes you think you've got it together for nursing. Surigical tech, pa, radiology tech, etc etc. In all of these you've got to give it your all, or you're not going to make it.

thanks alot i think ill retake ap 1 i got a C+ its mostly bio 1 & bio 2 i got c's bc i was going for the PA program but i dont need those bio's for nursing i got a A in statistics B+ in ap2 and C in chem 1

thanks for the comments i really appreciate it i need to take it more seriuosly and hull ass i just to be an honor student in sju i just slacked after my little brother died but i cant use me as an excuse anymore

You need to show that you're willing to master the information given to you, that you can apply it and rely on your judgements. That means getting A's maybe B's in classes. A 2.5 doesn't reflect a drive to master information. Even A's at the end of your school career doesn't show a dedication to your studies and will hurt you.

Thank you Chelsea. I hate the attitude of "settling" to be a nurse when people don't think they can become a doctor or PA. That "anyone can be a nurse" mentality is what is bringing our profession down.

To the OP: I can't help but be immediately turned off by your post, and not because of the GPA, or even because you're settling for nursing instead of PA. It's the way you present yourself literally. Yes, this is the only the Internet. But for all you know, I may be the one deciding if you will be accepted to the nursing school you're interested in. Begin your professional tone and appearance now.

What harsh comments. Very sad we say A's and B's will cut it. As a instructor for a Accelerated BSN the grades don't make the nurse. I have had students that strive for A's but make the worst clinicians because they cant apply the book to real life scenarios. You can be what ever you set your mind to it just may take some time and hard work to prove yourself. Perhaps talk to someone at your local nursing school and talk about options to make your dream a reality! Good luck.

I would definitely retake the courses you got a C in, especially if they're science classes. I retook every C, D & F and it's drastically raised my gpa. At my community college, my friend got into the ADN program with a 2.9 gpa..which doesn't say much cuz our BSN programs in town take much higher than that!
