Going to get written up for a mistake I made. I got turned in to my DON by a respiratory therapist for leaving two capped needles on a patients tray. I went to apologize to the patient and she knew nothing about it. I had a confrontation with this respiratory therapist earlier and I guess she is getting me back even though I don't remember the mistake it could of happened. I don't think I will sign the write up because of what the patient said. Been upset for 2 dAys.

If you don't recall then that's what you say.
Did she see you leave them there?
Were they really there at all?
Her word against yours?
Say you know nothing about and do not recall any such incident.

Being written-up is a soul-crushing experience. Dealing with a coworker who wants to report every instance and jump the chain of command is also soul-crushing.
I have no words of advice or wisdom, but I do wish you the best of luck.

I was wrote up 3 times in one month by the same nurse.
Only one of the instances I fessed up too. The others I plead the 5th and made it a he say she say situation.
Luckily, I no longer work on that floor.
Something is seriously wrong with people like this.

Did you, or didn't you leave the syringes on the tray? Do you think the RT is setting you up and lied about it?
Signing the write up doesn't matter , it's still on your disciplinary record.
If you feel you were set up, you must grieve the write up.

My concern for you is did you actually recap the needles because that could lead to a needle stick. Nothing wrong with saying you don't recall it and did you even do it. I wouldn't lose any sleep over it. What sucks is the coworker writing you up over it rather than dealing directly with you!

This! Needles go straight from the patient to the sharps bin! This is definitely something that should have been dealt with in person, not via a manager and could have been easily resolved with a friendly "hey, make sure you put your sharps straight in the bin!"

Could be a vindictive co worker, could be an honest mistake. Since you don't remember, state just that along with the patient not knowing what you were talking about.
