Got my VT License!!

Hi all! just want to share with you my experience on how I received my VT license. Today, as I regularly check VT website about the status of my application, it was such a blessing to see my name on the list of licensed nurse of VT.

To some who have been sending me pm's on the status and how I did about the application to VT and CA application expiring on Jan 20.... Here's the summary:

December 15, 2007: submitted "verification of license" form and an explanation letter with $60 check.....

-----CHECK NOT YET CLEARED AS OF THIS TIME

December 18, 2007: Submitted application to VT with $150 check

MISTAKE: didn't include CA pass letter

December 24, 2007 : VT received application and fees

------ CHECK GOT CLEARED

January 4, 2008: Sent CA BON request for extension of CA-RN application sent thru email, mail and fax

------ NO REPLY

January 8, 2008: Sent VT pass letter from CA

*** EMAILED THEM EVERY WEEK SINCE THEN IF THEY RECEIVED MY PASS LETTER

January 15, 2008: CA bon answered my email and asked if did I sent $10 payment for the transfer of NCLEX results to VT

January 16, 2008: Sent CA bon request for test scores for VT with $10

January 23, 2008: received an email that VT received pass letter

January 24, 2008: VT issued my license:w00t:

I email CA bon almost every 2 days just to know the status of my requests and application.... I got tired of calling them since they only give information based on what they see on the computer and up to now they are telling me that they haven't received any of my request. My CA application is now expired and I don't know if my extension was granted.

I just want to share this to people having the same problems..... VT does not require anything coming from CA Bon. All you need is the pass letter and the application based from my experience.

Thank you to all the advices. This forum is such a blessing to me.

it's a great relief knowing that you were able to have a license in vermont. i am also a filipino and graduated this march 2007. i applied for california and waiting for my eligibility. i am so worried because they said that if 3 years has lapsed and you were not able to submit your ssn you need to retake nclex? or you can reapply and pay the necessary fees but not take nclex exam again... which is which? hehehe

i would like to ask if you have an agency here in the philippines? thank you so much!!!

what can you advise for my application in california? do you recommend for me to take cg because it doesn't expire?

thank you so much fruity!!

It is 3 years and some people were able to extend it for an additional 1 year thru a formal request to CA BRN.

It would not be wise if you apply for Initial Licensure/Endorsement to VT or any other State BON for that matter very, very early. It would be more prudent if you stretch that 3 years as much as you can before doing anything. 6-8 mos. before it actually expires would be a good insurance time to do it.

And why do the CGFNS certification? It is not needed by both CA BRN and VT BON. These are only one of the few boards remaining that do their own credential evaluation for foreign grads. Doing the CGFNS Certification would negate the very reason why people choose these States in the first place. Giving the CGFNS Certification to these boards are inconsequential. They only accept it as a source of another evaluation/certification but they can do it on their own and that is what you have paid them to do. Absolutely no point doing the CGFNS Certification for these 2 boards.

No sense on worrying about this very early as well. You haven't even taken the NCLEX-RN exam yet. Stretch the 3 years CA BRN is giving you as much as you can once you pass the exam then try to make a formal request to CA BRN to extend it for another year and do this about 6 mos. or so before it actually expires and if they do not do it anymore in the near future or have not heard from them after your request, that is the time that you consider applying for VT. Maybe 2-3 mos. before it expires and if you were not able to get that 1 year extension or have not heard a reply from CA BRN regarding your request for an extension.

1. application

2. pass letter

3. CGFNS certificate

4. $150

Hi, I am very interested to apply for a VT license. I just to ask if the CG certificate you send is a xerox copy as well as the CA pass letter. And I want to ask if I don't have to request CA verification letter that cost $10. Thank you very much....savian:flwrhrts:

With my experience, xerox copy is ok and no need to request CA for the transfer of test scores for them to give you a license. BUT I did ask CA bon to transfer my test scores and paid $10.... They did the transfer 2 weeks after I recieved my license.

cgfns exam will not get you a license for the us, nor will it be easier to get an employer with that. no reason to write it if it is not needed, the preparation for it is completely different from that of the nclex exam.

everything has an expiration date, nothing is for life.

Any news on your request for an extension from CA BRN ??

It is not required as only the pass letter is required but it would be good to play it safe by really sending them a copy of the test results officially. It's your future, I'm sure you don't want it to be compromised, so a few more bucks wouldn't hurt right? Better do it properly now than regret things later.

Can you share to us what VT BON sent you?

What does a VT license look like? Does it look like our PRC atm-like card here? Does it come with your own picture? Does it also come with a certificate of registration? Are there other things/documents sent to you?

Hehe, I'm just curious to know what VT has in store for its nurse applicants.

It's just a simple certificate-like paper. Not like a card as I am expecting it to be.... But it doesn't really matter for me how it looks. What matters is that I already got my license, I passed the NCLEX and will not have to do it again.::))
