This week I've started seeing clients on my own, ones that belong to other nurses. Today my preceptor told me that the traveler we had was terminated this morning. A while later she told me "We are kicking you out!"......while miming a soccer kick. I guess I had a look of total panic on my face because she realized what I'd thought and very quickly said that they're kicking me out of the nest, not the agency!!! They're giving me some of the traveler's pts to case manage.

That would have freaked me out, too. Guess she didn't think about how it sounded, especially with the traveler being "kicked out" earlier that day! Wow, you are moving fast! They are already giving you pts on you own! You must be a great nurse!
I don't think I'm great, Criss, just eager to learn and get up to speed. I am loving this job and really enjoy being able to concentrate on one client at a time. I like the driving time, and I gave my husband a big kiss the other night for insisting on getting me a vehicle with GPS!
My preceptor called a local infusion agency and signed me up for a class about all the pumps used in home care.....I guess she got tired of the "deer in the headlights" look everytime she mentioned pumps!

Glad to hear you are loving your job. Congrats on getting out there on your own, and good luck learning how to use all those pumps!

Tazzi,
I'm sure you will do a wonderful job. Your background of knowledge from the ER will help you
enormously in homecare. It's true that if something is not right
with your patients, you will be sending them to the ER where your colleagues
will be evaluating them after you will have already done so. Your instincts
will make a hugh difference for your homecare patients. They will be so much
safer because of what you know.
But, now you will get to experience the satisfaction of helping to enable someone
to remain at home in their own environment which is for most of us, the very
best place to be! I know, absolutely, that you will be really good at this.
I think that this is one of the most fulfilling areas of nursing that anyone could
experience.
Good luck to you, Tazzi. You deserve it.

Tazzi, I'm so glad that this job is working so well for you! :) You deserve it!
Have fun learning about all the pumps. I'm pleased you're going to a class. That shows your agency really cares about you, and isnt' just going to make you learn them OTJ! :)
Congrats again! :)
Thanks everyone! I've gotten so much support here and I really appreciate it.
