Got my results yesterday..

Nursing Students NCLEX

Published

I failed. :scrying:

Like I said in my other posts, I got to 220 and had mostly priority questions....soooo, I held out hope because of the types of ?'s I got. Wrong. :o(

Sunday I was pretty bummed when I found out, but I'm feeling ok about it now. To be honest with you, this was a lesson learned for me. Alot of my classmates took the kaplan course, reviewed the practice questions like mad, and took their studying very seriously. Overall, they seemed much better prepared(I heard they passed, too). I think I had this illusion that when I graduated, I assumed I would automatically pass the nclex. Wrong again.

I embarassingly admit that I did not give it my all in studying for the nclex. I only went over a few study questions (maximum 50), and reviewed the Saunders Comp book only a few hours here and there. I felt like I knew the general content from school, but that's about it. I very much lacked on practicing the questions & learning from those. The lesson learned for me is to never feel over confident. I always got good grades in nursing school, and did not understand that the nclex would be so different from the exams we used to take. Wrong once again!

So this time I have a different plan. I have 45 days until retake, and will take this time around very seriously. I have learned SO much from you all on this board and reading the posts, and wish I would have came here before I sat for the boards. I feel so stupid that I did not realize how important studying for the nclex was, and how important being prepared is. It doesn't stop at graduation, doesn't it!

Thanks for your support while I was waiting, tho..I really appreciate it!

Do you know what the nclex 2nd time pass rate is? At the end of our last semester, Kaplan came in to talk to us, and I remember them saying something in the 50-58% area with the 2nd timer's passing rate. Is that correct? If so, then i'm scared to death.

I'm sorry to hear you didn't pass.

Your attitude is admirable. We all live and learn, and we get what we give (sometimes). Good luck to you. My failures have been my biggest growth experiences in the long run.

:pumpiron: I know it must be frustrating to not have passed. Don't worry! There are some tools out there that can help you. I found some NCLEX flash cards with questions and the answers with rationale's on the back. You can always purchase those and go through about 10 a day until you feel comfortable. If you do that faithfully, you will have no problem...

Good Luck!!

I'm sorry to hear that you did not pass. You sound like you plan to study harder this time. I don't know about you but there was no way I was able to afford the $400 for Kaplan's class, after just having to dish out $200 for boards and $75 for the state board of nursing. I did it without Kaplan. I think exposing yourself to as many questions as possible is the best way to go. I did 50 to 100 questions every night. I also read the rationale for the ones I got wrong. Also in most of the NCLEX study books, have tips. I went by that. I could always weed out 2 of the answers quickly, when I did not know for sure the answer. I wish you the best of luck. It sounds like you have the right mind set. And yes I heard the 50% thing about 2nd time as well.

Awwwwww... So sorry to hear that. In any case, i like your confidence. You really have a good heart and that is quite admirable. You can contact suzanne4 and do her program. She is using saunders and people are passing with it. i would think you need to really take your time and start reviewing from your weak points to your strongest. More importantly, you need to do lots of question. For iinstance you can plan to do at least a 100 question in a day for 30days. That's 3000. I believe that if you are able to do well in the saunders questions and do the rationales of ones missed and correct ones, you are in good shape for nclex.

You can also try kaplan class(if you have the money)That's what i did and passed with 75 questions. Or at least get their Nclex review book.I personally think that those strategies are very helpful in answering nclex questions. Whatever you decide to do, i wish you all the BEST!!

Pass rate smash rate!!!! I am here to tell you it can be done and please dont listen to the pass rates. I am a 3rd time test taker after graduating 12 years ago (yes you read right 12 years --1994) I took it 2 times in 1994, studied like you did ............ and I just passed this June 5th! Studied with suzannes pland and saunders 3rd edition. You can do this!!!! Goodluck!

I'm with AmyD here - the pass rate for second-timers is completely irrelevant. Don't get too caught up in what other people have done on their second attempts. The only thing that matters at this point is what you are going to do from here on out. It certainly sounds like it's been a wakeup call and that now you have a solid plan. I'm betting that you lick the exam the second time around. Definitely keep us posted! Good luck.

I'm sorry you didn't pass :icon_hug: , but it sounds like you learned from your mistakes & will do things alot different next time. Please don't be embarrassed, we all make mistakes...at least you can admit it. I think that shows good character! I also will be using Suzanne4's plan & the Saunders & that's all I'm going to use...it has excellant results! Chin up & the best of luck to you! :wink2:
