Got denied by California; now license holder for NV, is reciprocity possible?

Published

Hello..

I'm a foreign grad and applied to CA BON last year for the NCLEX RN. I was denied for the ATT due to concurrency issues, so I applied to NV. But my documents for CA, will still be valid for around 2 more years I believe. I then took the NCLEX for NV just days ago, and am now an RN. Thank God. But now I'm wondering if ever anyone is on the same boat I am. I wanna know if ever there's a chance that we can convert that licensure by exam application into reciprocity application. And so if that happens, are they gonna ask for the deficient courses again? If so, I take those courses, am I gonna be able to hold a CA license through reciprocity? Thank you so much.

California does not participate in the Nurse Licensure Compact system. I'm attaching a link for your information so that you can see which states do participate. Good luck.

California will still want to see your educational qualifications. If you don't meet the educational qualifications, chances aren't all that good that you'll be endorsed into California. I'd say that you should contact the California BRN and ask them what they need, then as part of your CE, perhaps find a way to make up the content, then recontact to find out if that will meet the standards. Worst thing they can tell you is "you still don't meet our standards, try again later after..."

I hate to say it, but even if you try to endorse into CA they're still going to demand a copy of your transcripts. And the CA BRN can still reject you even if you hold a valid RN license from another state.

I agree with akulahawk's advice: ask the BRN what you need to do to meet their requirements...because until you meet CA's requirements, they are not going to license you.

Best of luck.

I'm a NM RN license holder. I also applied here in CA a year ago and they denied my application. I sent my reciprocity application two months ago and until now I haven't received any answer from them. I tried to call them and I sent them emails but they never replied. My advice to you is not to apply for reciprocity coz you're just gonna waste your money. Just move to NV. It's not that far from CA anyways. I'm actually planning to move to NM

ok thanks guys for your say on this matter..

anyways, Johnyboy, pls update me on the progress of this matter. I'll greatly appreciate it. thanks. goodluck..

I was just thinking, my CA application would really be a waste if I can't even convert the application into reciprocity.. Its my precious $300. lol.

I agree with johnyboi24, it's not going to work to transfer-endorse from one state into CA, if one was denied once or even if not denied, you have to meet the CA BON requirements.

Thanks for the link... d fees for CA just been wasted.. awwww. Lol

Hello, I am experiencing essentially the same problem. I am a Canadian RN and my goal is to be licensed in California. I could not apply though with a SSN, so I got licensed in MI, got a job, and once I got my SSN I applied to California by endorsement. California denied my license because of deficiencies in my nursing education, which is a 4 yr BScN, in obstetrics. The letter indicated the only way I will get my license to is make up for the deficiencies by taking an obstetrics course at an accredited nursing school IN California. Problem is, I am having a very difficult time finding a school where I can take a course. So no, applying by endorsement will not get you a license because they still hold the same requirements as if you were applying by examination. All I can say if find out what those "deficiencies" are and see if you can find a course in Cali that will make those up.

i was denied for my ATT last year so I moved to PEnnsylvania and passed NcLEX. Now I have My RN license in PA and VA. will Cali still deny my application for endorsement? I saw one of their requirements Online is my transcirpt which probably will be the issue again. Help! i really want to move back to West coast again

Hi Konoha! Did you graduate from Philippines? Did BON in NV require you to pass TOEFL? thanks!

If you have the same or similar deficiencies then yes you are looking at being denied. Doesn't matter having licences in other states you still have to follow same application process and send your transcripts to CA
