Hi everyone. I'm new to the nursing world, and am preparing for my first round of clinicals. I have a lot of back problems (problem since birth), so I'm in the market for a GOOD pair of shoes that will get me through those long shifts. I'm willing to spend a decent amount of money on them since I know it will make all of the difference in the world, but I can't seem to find anything too comfortable. I've tried on Danskos, but they're just way too heavy for my back. I really need something light. (or maybe they do have lighter lines other than their Professionals?) I've also tried the sneaker route: New Balances, and Reeboks, but I haven't been blown away buy anything there either. Does anyone have any other suggestions of good shoes to try on? I'm getting desperate!
They have to be white, and have to have a back (ie no open back clogs), but those are my only restrictions. Thanks for your help!!
I remove the insert that comes with the shoe and put in a Spanco insole. They are much better than the ones that come with the shoes. Apodiatrist recomended them and I have been using them for a few years now. They can be replaced every six months or so. Friends use them too ,but they replace the original insole after a few months.
ok, as a nurse for just over a year now..........lemme tell ya.
I liked the sketchers with silver trim while i was in nursing school. They have since became old and they don't make em anymore.............
I have bought nursemates, sporty kswiss, fila, and another pair of skethers and the 120 dollar danskos...........
but....... the best i've found so far are the new balance running shoes. Just bought em bout a month ago, but my feet DO NOT hurt after a 12 hour shift. I love them.
dansko made the ball of my feet hurt, the others made my toes and heels hurt.
new balance running is by far my favorite.
my dad used to laugh at me cuz i bought a new pair of shoes every month, but i had to to find what worked.

New Balance are the only shoes for me. They are the most comfortable shoes I can find. Plus they make wide shoes which I need (size EEEEE). Duck get jealous of my feet:chuckle
Could tell us the name of the socks and where in Canada you purchased them? I am in Ontario too! Heading back out on assignment soon though. Thanks:)
Alrighty then - I spoke with the store where I got them and they are a special order item that they no longer carry on a routine basis but they can get them in. The chain of stores that carries them is called McTaggart's (they have stores in Dryden, Kenora, Fort Frances, Red Lake and Atikokan - all in Northwestern Ontario). I can't find a 1-800 number for them but here are there store phone numbers:
Dryden - (807) 223 - 5305
Kenora - (807) 468 - 8979
Fort Frances - (807) 274 - 5371
Red Lake - (807) 727 - 2787
Atikokan - (807) 597 - 2143
The brand name of the sock is Sportique Crew Sock and the style number is 411C. Hope this helps BorderRn.
A friend of mine swears by these. Claims she can walk all day and her feet and back don't bother her at all. Find them at
I'm all for comfort, but i could easily see myself catching that or hooking it on something.
New Balance running are by far the most comfortable shoe I have put my foot into. I don't have much of an arch and often get back aches but I can honestly say not a one since wearing these. They are great.
My podiatrist recommends the New Balance 800 series and above. bStay away from SAS, they don't have enough arch support.

I love my Danskos...but I'm also having great luck with my KSwiss :)
I also wear knee high support socks, though.
