My hands are so cracked and chapped from constant handwashing it's ridiculous. I've tried Eucerin, vaseline, Nivea, Gold Bond; basically the entire Walmart selection. Does anyone have anything that works particularly well? I'm prepared to order off the internet if need be!
I have actually tried several hand creams for nurses, but only three really stood out. Take note that this is just my personal review for the sake of those who have been looking for the right hand lotion to buy. Feel free to read other reviews and share your experiences here.
CeraVe SA Renewing Lotion.
Recommended by dermatologists for dry and cracked hands, this hand lotion is available in most drug stores. Applying it once would last you the whole day.Pros: It has no odor and is not greasy.
Con: It can be a bit too pricey.
Curel Targeted Therapy Hand Cream.
This hand moisturizer is best for dry, cracked hands as a result of repetitive washing. It is non-greasy and is absorbed quickly.Pros: It contains soy milk, monoi oil and vitamin E which will help soften even your cuticles.
Cons: May contain ceramide which can be toxic if used excessively.
Neutrogena Norwegian Formula Hand Cream.
It has a silky smooth texture that you will love to use on your hands, and even on your feet. It is very effective in soothing cracked and irritated hands.Pros: Results are quite instant and they feel really good on your hands.
Con: May leave a slightly sticky feeling for a while after application.
I have always had a terrible time with my hands, especially during the winter months. I love b&b works so while in a store one day about a year ago a lady working looked at my hands and asked if I was a nurse. When I told her I was she showed me the true blue spa line. I had seen it there many times before but had never used it. I always went for the good smelling "new" scents. Anyway, I tried it and was amazed how well it worked. I bought two different lotions and a foaming exfoliator. The one I liked for my hands was a super softening hand lotion with paraffin. It worked wonders. For 20 years in nursing I tried everything with little success. True blue spa hand lotion is a must in my bag at all times now!

OMG I know exactly how you feel!! I would highly suggest shea butter or cocoa butter they work very well! Also something that I do (I have eczema) is that at night I put a bunch of lotion on my hands, rub it in a little... but for the most part leave a layer not rubbed in. Thru the night, my hands absorb the lotion... it works very well for me!

Mary Kay has a 3 step hand scrub and moisturizer...I don't know what it's called but as far as I know it's the only one with 3 separate products to clean, exfoliate, and moisturize. The first time I used it my hands actually looked younger (not that they look that old, but I noticed a difference!)
Gold Bond also makes a cream hand sanitizer and moisturizer all in one. I do not care for the smell at all, but it is much gentler on my hands than the gel hand sanitizers. Some people like the smell, so don't write it off just because of that.
