Golden West College (GWC) ADN Fall 2023

Updated:   Published

Hey!  It might be a little early to start this, given that applications aren't open yet, but I noticed that the multi-criteria points system was updated in September 2022.  I thought I remembered being in better shape when I looked at the old points system in past semesters ? so I was curious to hear from anyone else who is planning to apply and see where we all stand.

I haven't taken the TEAS yet, but not including my TEAS score I have 56 points so far, and I'll have a max of 81 depending on my score.

Haha yes I actually sent them 2 acceptance emails for safe measure. They didn't email me back either and I didn't get one of those automatic replies. I'm sure it's fine!

Do you guys think they just sent out acceptances for the CSUSB pathway? They still need to accept more students for the regular ADN pathway for fall right?

Haha me too ? I sent them 2 acceptance letter, but I think I am just paranoid at this point.

I think that could be it, or maybe they chose the students with the highest points and GWC is waiting to hear back from them. We could be alternates ?  we got a couple more days to hear back ??

There's no wayyy! They're accepting like 90-100 students this cycle so they would at least have already sent out Spring acceptances. I doubt we are alternates, let's be patient and see!

Hello all,

I'm Kenji and a 3rd (will be 4th this Fall) semester student and an officer in the CNSA (California Nursing Students Association). If you have questions, let me know. I'll try to answer with what I've seen on the last few posts.

Notification of admission or not: I'm actually impressed they sent out admissions when they did. When I got in for Spring 2022, we were supposed to be notified by August but did not find out until mid-October ?‍♂️. It also happened in 'waves,' where one group was admitted, they would respond, and based on how many accepted, the next 'wave' would be given admission or be notified they were on Alternate List. That's probably why admissions came earlier for some and is just happening now for others. Also, last Alternate admitted in my cohort was like late November. I do not want to create false hope, but I also want you to have hope. It isn't over yet and if they haven't sent notification for Spring semester, there is still a chance.

They've streamlined it a bit but they are also dealing with some new changes. The concurrent program with CSU San Bernadino is one of them. I mentioned it earlier on here, but about 20 - 25 of each new cohort will be given the opportunity to do so. Those offered have to fill certain criteria so it requires more review from the Dean, Faculty, and Admissions, that's why you are probably being notified now instead of earlier.

They are on the new system of doing 1 application cycle (for both Fall and Spring) vs 2 applications cycles (like what the CSUs do still) and they are admitting 80 students per semester instead of the current 50 sized cohorts. The classes are so big that 1st semester will receive lecture at the Forum and will have to do lab in groups (last I heard it will be approximately 4-5). Although admitting more students and in 1 application cycle does help in some ways, it also adds logistical nightmares to the Nursing office (seriously, they are always working hard whenever I swing by for office hours or CNSA duties).

Acceptance email, if they've changed policy ignore me: We had to respond with the email we put in our app which required an official GWC/Coastline email. I hit "Reply" on my admission email, followed by me sending a separate email. They did not respond to either, so I have no idea which one worked ?

If you have any other questions let me know! Also, I'm attending the Pinning/Graduation ceremony so if I can pick the Dean's or one of the Admissions staff's brains, I'll let you know what I find out. ?

Take care and hang in there everyone!

Kenji

Just a heads up to everyone worried... I spoke to someone extremely helpful today in the nursing dept who assured me they are just trying to get through the concurrent enrollment people right now. They haven't even started to do the regular program and we should expect to hear something closer to the 1st-2nd  week of June.

One other thing, it seems that almost everyone's score dropped by about 10 points. They previously didn't accept people with ~ less than 70 points so I am guessing that number will change to 60ish now... at least for this 1st year of the new grid. I could totally be wrong, but if somebody who has 78 is in the 1st wave of BSN, I'd guess admissions from low 60s and up have a good chance.

Hi Whitney!
I believe I got dropped to a 73 with the new multi criteria sheet. I got invited to the zoom info session for the concurrent pathway with CSUSB. During the zoom session, they said they chose people that selected the "consider me for CEP box on their application", had higher points, good GPAs, and looked at transcripts to consider the work load they could handle. They gave us a a few days to respond to see if we accept or decline (not very much time for a pretty big decision hahaha). I ended up declining due to the anticipated workload. They gave us the suspected schedule for the program, and you have to take the CSUSB courses on top of your GWC ADN program courses. I believe one of the semesters was peds, mother baby, (lecture and clinical for both) and then the CSUSB course on top of it was pathophysiology AND pharmacology. From what I've heard, those are like the hardest nursing program classes and I couldn't imagine taking all of them at once ON TOP of clinicals. They said if we declined then we would just be added into the traditional ADN application pool. I haven't heard anything back from them since! Anyways, good luck to you! I hope we both get into the nursing program ?

Congrats on acceptance! I have a 70 so I'm hoping to hear something soon. When was the last day you had to respond to CEP? I'm curious when the next wave of applicants will be notified. The suspense is killing me!

Does anyone know how concurrent enrollment works in terms of financial aid? You can only accept aid from one school at a time so I am curious if you have to come out of pocket for that... ???

Congrats to those who got accepted! I don't know how I should feel about the lvn-RN bridge program, since that's the only I was able to apply to. The admittance if completely random lottery according to the nursing counselor I spoke with. I feel kinda left out to not be able to take advantage of these "new criteria/guidelines.”

I got denied for LBCC, Citrus College, and MiraCosta. I got accepted at Mt. Sac. I'm really grateful I got in there. Goldenwest is close to my house though so I'd like to stay close if I can. I have 76 points at Golden West so I doubt I will get in. Too many people with 85 points and above out there!

I think 76 pts is high actually. Don't feel doubtful! My counselor told me I would get in and I have 68 pts. It's just a matter of when they start you!

This is exactly the range I believe. I am praying we get to start in fall!
