Hello everyone,
I am creating this forum so other pre-nursing students can gather and share helpful information regarding the application process, specifically for GWC's Fall 2022 entry. Some information I received by (staff removed name) (GWC counselor) today is that GWC's nursing program will accept the highest science grade regardless of repeats/remediation. I was worried because I took Anatomy, Physiology, and Microbiology all the way back in 2012-2013 when I was first starting college, and I failed a few times ? thankfully, previous failing grades will not impact your eligibility in receiving the highest points in the multi-criteria (just get those A's ?).
Additionally, she informed me that if science grades are older than the recency requirement (e.g. GWC has a 7 year recency), then schools will not consider these past grades (even if you failed, like in my case) in the application process.
This was a HUGE sigh of relief and hopefully it eases anyone else who might be in a similar situation.
p.s. (staff removed name) was referred to me by one of GWC's nursing professors. She did inform me that in the past, GWC used to average the science grades, but this is currently NOT the case (hopefully they don't change anything in the upcoming months).
Best of luck to anyone applying this cycle! ?

I applied with 82 points; however, that may not be the correct score since it seems other students have been accepted with 79-82 points.
I believe I did the application correctly as I still have the original application PDF & discussed with a counselor.

I am alternate #5 and would like to say thank you so much for updating us! I am really praying that I get in!
Congrats @CNAelaur, @Jennifer96, I look forward to meeting you next semester! I'm in the CNSA so you will see me at club events and even during open lab hours (I went to nearly every single one because I need repetition and sometimes I need to bash my head a few hundred times to get a concept through my very thick skull) ?.
@HopelessNurse, every semester is different depending who applies and who accepts. I know my cohort included Alternates in the teens (#14 for sure), so based on that there is a good chance! Hopefully, you get in!
Alternates for my cohort were not informed until about 1 - 2 weeks after the initial groups acceptance due to Admin waiting to see who accepted or declined their admission. Also, I do know a few people in previous cohorts who didn't even know they were an alternate list, get notification that they were granted a place when they opened up. So hang in there people!
What @teee is saying is very true. I applied for 3 cycles and several schools before getting in (stupid, stupid, C in Anatomy). Don't be discourage and do not compare what your points are from last cycle to this one. It does help to improve your score, but know you aren't necessarily competing the same point average or that the point average automatically moves up X amount of points every cycle. You are competing an average of the CURRENT application pool for that Semester. Sometimes that means the average is at 86, and sometimes that means the average is 79 depending who applies with what points.

Hopefully, I can be able to get your spot! I was accepted as an alternate and am hoping to still get in!
@Kenji12345 I am currently #5 on the alternate list, how do you suppose my chances are getting in?
Hey, were you able to recalculate your points and find out if you had 82? I'm not sure how you weren't given a seat.

I recalculated & looked back at the application submitted - I still genuinely believe I have 82 points.
Even at the time, I did the application with a counselor to confirm my points; however, I guess it was wrong (sadly).

It could also be that there are more than a few who had 82 and they had to unfortunately divide them from Admission to Wait List. I know a quite a few on the Waitlist had the same points, but were ranked differently (no idea how it is done) so some got admitted later than others when spots opened despite having the same points.
I believe their website states that in the event that a lot of people have the same number of points, the selection turns into a lottery and they pull candidates from there at random. So if a lot of people qualified, and it turned into a lottery, it was based on luck at that point. Thats how a lot of schools are. Sucks , but what can we do except keep trying .

Thank you!! I applied with 79 points! I probably barely made it ?
Thank you! Yesss, hopefully you get my spot and I’m sure you will get in. #5 seems like a great chance ? good luck to you!
& congrats to everyone who got in! And whoever didn’t, please keep trying and applying to as many programs as you can before you go private! I applied to 11 and got into two so far! First time I applied (last Spring), I only applied to Rio Hondo and got denied (never put all your eggs in one basket). So for this fall, I applied to 11 (and probably could’ve applied to more) and wcu and so glad I didn’t just give up and settle for wcu. This is my biggest advice, APPLY TO AS MANY AS YOU CAN! Your time will come ?
