Golden West College ADN Fall 2022

Updated:   Published

Hello everyone,

I am creating this forum so other pre-nursing students can gather and share helpful information regarding the application process, specifically for GWC's Fall 2022 entry. Some information I received by (staff removed name) (GWC counselor) today is that GWC's nursing program will accept the highest science grade regardless of repeats/remediation. I was worried because I took Anatomy, Physiology, and Microbiology all the way back in 2012-2013 when I was first starting college, and I failed a few times ? thankfully, previous failing grades will not impact your eligibility in receiving the highest points in the multi-criteria (just get those A's ?).

Additionally, she informed me that if science grades are older than the recency requirement (e.g. GWC has a 7 year recency), then schools will not consider these past grades (even if you failed, like in my case) in the application process.

This was a HUGE sigh of relief and hopefully it eases anyone else who might be in a similar situation.

p.s. (staff removed name) was referred to me by one of GWC's nursing professors. She did inform me that in the past, GWC used to average the science grades, but this is currently NOT the case (hopefully they don't change anything in the upcoming months).

Best of luck to anyone applying this cycle! ?

@kenji12345 you are so amazing in your responses. thank you so much!

Does anyone know when we might hear back from Goldenwest?

NP! Best bet - although not the answer you want to hear, I sure didn't - is to keep checking the GWC Nursing website as they will update when they are likely to send word. Otherwise keep checking your email as official word for my cohort came through there.

I do know that the dates vary due to COVID and Administration issues like sheer number of applicants, transcript verification (I went to 5 other colleges besides GWC/OCC/CCC), and whatever else they have to do behind the scenes that we don't even know about.

Last year notification was supposed to be in mid-June (filing was done late March) but I didn't get my reject email until late August. Which means I didn't officially get the rejection for Fall until AFTER the filing period for Spring had passed. ?‍♂️ Good thing I applied for Spring "just in case" ?

That said, the Nursing Admin Staff really does care and they work full tilt to get the word out as fast as they can. Hang in there everyone!

Kenji

Hello!

I also applied for Fall 2022 and am wondering have you heard back regarding applications yet? I know the deadline for applications was April 16th and it states it takes about a month. I think I'm just freaking out because it's already getting so close to a month and I haven't received any email yet.

I wish everyone luck!

Hi @Jennifer96

I saw that you had gotten accepted to Saddleback college, if you don’t mind, I was wondering how many points you applied to GWC with? I’m just trying to get a good gauge of whether I am alright or not in terms of points?

Hi @ZottingStudent,

I applied with 82 points. I think someone else in the forum was saying average was about 79+ to getting in?

I got accepted into Saddleback, but I live right across from Goldenwest so it would be more time efficient for me if I was able to attend Goldenwest. I'm still debating which one would be best for me based on other factors, but I'm hoping to get into Goldenwest because I'm leaning more toward it.

Good luck and best wishes!

Hey all,

I don't know when you will be notified, but I can tell you that previous cohorts were told of their acceptance approximately 6 - 10 weeks after application.

My own cohort ran into to some issues due to the Delta surge and COVID in general, we were notified a bit later than (about 15 weeks).

So we aren't a good base line, but you get the idea that even with delays, they will try to notify you as soon as possible. With COVID numbers down and more staff on campus, you shouldn't run into the problem we did.

It is hard and I was a big (BIG) ball of stress when I was waiting for my acceptance/rejection email, but hang in there everyone! Try to find ways to take your mind off it and do some self care. Go for walks, hike/workout, do some socializing/Twitch/online interaction, binge watch, binge study, put in a few extra shifts, stare at clouds, whatever it is you need to do distract your brain and relax your body. I'm hoping you will find out by the end of May, but keep in mind it might not happen until later and you will need to find ways to keep yourself centered until then. Think of this as ways to develop healthy coping mechanisms for nursing school. I certainly needed it. It took 3 application cycles and I applied to 9 schools every cycle until I finally got in.

I hope to see you ALL this Fall,

Kenji

Hi Kenji,

Thanks for all the great information, it's super helpful!

I know you mentioned that classes were probably 2-3x/week. Are they typically in the morning?

Thanks you,

Jennifer

Hi Jennifer,
Glad to see you are keeping your options open.

It looks like Fall 2022 will have a nearly the same schedule as Spring 2022 1st Semester. This is tentative, as a lot can change from now to Fall (Summer is a cherished gift that I plan to savor), but according to GWC's Class Schedule, Fall 2022 will have class Monday and Tuesday morning from 0800 - 1400 (Mon) and 0800 - 1255 (Tues). G131 looks the same as well: Tues 1700 - 1900 online. I've attached a screenshot and I will post the link to GWC's class schedule below.

Fall 2022 will only have 9.5 clinical hours rather than 12.5, but that could be due to other issues rather than different locations. I heard 1st semester might be switched from Hospital to Nursing/Senior care facilities but I have no idea if that is true or not.

Hope that helps,
Kenji

This is SUPER helpful! I didn't realize they had already posted the classes, so this is super appreciated.

I am still trying to work while in school (I know not the best situation) so I'm trying to figure out what my schedule may be like.

Hi Kenji,

I hope to join GWC in Fall 2022. Can I ask you a couple of questions about the program through email?

Thank you.
