Golden West College ADN Fall 2021

Updated:   Published

Hi all! I wanted to start a new thread for those of us who are planning to apply for GWC ADN Program for Fall 2021. I thought we could post any questions, help, or updates.

I will be applying with either 82 or 87 points depending on my TEAS score. Right now I'm hovering in the mid 80s for practice exams, but hoping I can still land in the 90s.

It looks like last semester was really competitive so it's making me nervous.

Is this happening to anyone else?

I took 4 years of Spanish in high school and passed all my classes. I'm trying to select that option on the application but every time I save the application it automatically selects the 1 year of college leveled language classes. I can't get it to save the correct option and that's literally the only thing holding me back from submitting the application ?

I emailed the nursing dept but have no idea when they will email me back since GWC is currently on Spring break

OK , thank you.

Reach out to Malory she responds very quick. She’s one of the counselors.

Yes this is happening to me too. Please update when you get a response.

I’m assuming because this is their first time with an online application submission there were lots of issues that they are still/need to fine tune.

Happened to me as well. I’m sure this will happen to almost everyone who applies. I spoke with a counselor about this and this happened with her as well.

as long as you upload the necessary documents, you are fine.

Hey everyone,

I think they fixed the application because it counted my CNA license. I talked with the counselor before the application and she said we wouldn’t hear back until June.

I don’t know what I’m doing wrong, it’s still not counting my CNA license. I even emailed the nursing department and they said they attempted to fix the issue ?

@heartmurmur @Colleen Valdez I went back on the application today and second language section has been fixed!

I completed my draft application with 88 points. Kinda bummed because I'm currently taking the Intro to Nursing class but I think because it's in progress it won't count. I think for the points for the patient experience part might be a glitch so I would email them and wait for a response before you submit it! You don't want to lose points ? best of luck to everyone applying! sending hugs and good vibes to you all ?

Did you Input the “intro to nursing” into the field for “recommended classes?” I have pharmacology and critical thinking in progress. I figure since it’s still in progress I shouldn’t since it ask for a grade.

I didn’t, I don’t think you can get extra points for an in progress class ? I still inputted the class and put Spring  2021 but didn’t put a grade since the class isn’t finished!

Good luck to everyone!

I'm applying with 76-81 points depending on what they accept as work experience. I think my chances are slim, but I'm applying to other ADN programs in CA. I'm also pending GCC, LACC, and will be applying to PCC. Is anyone else applying to other schools?

I just took my TEAS yesterday so I’m waiting for the scores to post. I’m so nervous! I’m not applying to any other school. If I don’t get in for Fall, I’ll apply to Saddleback and GWC again for Spring.

@shmels what do you have for work experience? I feel like their updated criteria is oddly worded- because they only list a few titles, but they want direct patient care. My position/license isn’t on the list, but it’s direct patient care. In the FAQs, they even consider transporting patients in a wheelchair DPC.

@heartmurmur I'm a treatment care coordinator for an outpatient surgery center. My job duties are all over the map, but definitely include transporting patients in a wheelchair, calling in meds, explain/answer questions about their surgery... I have also worked in pharmacy and have my pharmacy license, but I don't think they accept that.

I have volunteer experience too, but its "too old". Which is sad. I guess all memories get deleted from our mind after 3 years ?

I'm thinking they may give me 5 points for work experience... making my point total 76.

Ugh all this waiting is so gut wrenching.
