GN / RN Internship at Medical City Dallas

Published

i posted this in the gn forum but didn't get any response, so i hope someone here can help! thanks!

:) hello!

i just passed my state boards last month and have been looking for new nurse jobs/internships. i work for an hca facility and contacted a nurse recruiter @ medical city dallas (another hca facility) today for a position i saw posted for in pediatrics. she mentioned that she had just posted a gn / rn internship position online that will start in october and that i could apply for that. i got her contact info and information on the different units and went online to apply. i was so excited to apply!! its in several departments, pediatric congenital heart surgery unit, nicu, er, cvicu, nvicu....wow!

my only problem is that a bsn is required and i have an adn. i am really wanting to apply. i applied at parkland last friday and am keeping my options open. i know i don't meet the requirements, but would it be ok for me to apply even if i don't have my bsn? or should i just keep looking for other internships?

if i apply and get an interview and they offer me a position, it would be a transfer...i would still have to go to orientation, but i would get to keep my seniority (10 yrs this december).

i just need some guidance please. any advice/input good or bad would be appreciated.

thank you so much for taking the time to read my post.

I hope I do too! I did get a rejection from Baylor ED..literally the same week! lol! I also applied to the ICU (in addition to the Telemetry position). No word on those 2...

Princess_Wannabe: I only applied to 2 residencies outside of Houston, since it's hard for me to drive there during nursing school. One is in Baylor and one in Waco which I have an interview for this Wednesday! But all my other ones are in Houston. Just hoping for someone from Houston to call me, that would be GREAT!

LovelyMo: I should've applied to ICU too, but only applied to Telemetry since this is my #1. I'm sorry about the ED position, but I'm hoping you get into one of the other two!! :)

Oh ok. I'm from Dallas but got into school here in Houston so I'm applying to both. Bf wants me to stay here though. There are a good number of us from Dallas in my school so a few of us will try to carpool if we get interviews up there. Well I know a lot of people at our school last semester who didn't have a job before graduation found it a bit easier to get one after they had their license.

I'm still praying I get a interview with Hermann!!! I did a clinical there and really liked it there. Did you apply??

anitaaa - Thanks! The next step is waiting to hear from the department managers at whatever hospitals they forwarded me to so the process is still a long way from over but I'm extremely grateful to still be in the running. The OB manager told me where she was forwarding me to but the ED manager just said I might be hearing from someone so who knows - eek!

Princess_WannaBe - Don't count yourself out as far as Baylor OB goes! They still have openings so I'm sure the recruiters are still contacting people:)

I applied for OR, Med/Surg and got email saying I got rejected from Baylor. I am still waiting on telemetry and oncology GN Internship positions that I applied.

Thanks! Hope for the best for both of us!

princess wannabe: yes, i also applied to memorial hermann. it was a while back though, so i'm wondering if they started the interview process yet..

meggo: its a big feat just to be in the running! you probably beat out a bunch of other people so congrats to you! I hope you can go all the way and land an offer!

Has anyone been called for an interview for Baylor telemetry yet?

Well Hermann doesn't start interviews until next week. I don't know of anyone who has a interview yet with them so I'm assuming they will start calling next week

I feel a little relieved that I'm not the only one getting these stupid rejection letters. I am beyond frustrated. Nobody will hire us because we dont' have any experience but they want us to go through an internship that is EXTREMELY competetive. We have a stupid system because they cannot accomodate for all the graduate nurses they keep pumping out.

As you can tell I am frustrated and want to scream. I graduated last May and have already passed boards and I still cannot get anyone to offer an interview. I called an HCA facility to ask about the status of my application and she told me who they consider first. Experienced nurses, their own nursing students, BSNs and then ADN (which is what I have, but I am an RN). She told me good luck. 10 minutes later, I check my email and I have a generic email from that HCA hospital stating, "We have not yet made a selection for the position for which you applied. However, because we have several applicants whose backgrounds relate more closely to our present requirements, we wish to inform you that we are not considering you further for this position". How crappy is that? Really? Right after I talk to you and you wish me good luck, you send a rejection letter.

Don't get me wrong, I try to stay positive but it's hard when all I want to do is work in the profession I so desperately love and I can't. Best wishes for everyone.

Soooooo...got my rejection letter from Baylor for telemetry. I'm telling ya..when I become an experienced nurse and if I want to move to Dallas..not applying to Baylor. Go PARKLAND! LOL..just j/k

It's all good. My top choice is Scott & White in Temple anyway and I think I'm going to be interviewing there soon for the ICU internship (got an email saying they'll be contacting me soon to interview) so it's all good! :)

Hi,

I just sent you a message...

Hey everyone.. I'm just feeling really defeated with so much rejected emails to all my applications. I've taken my board already and is licensed in the state of Texas. I've applied everywhere - GN, Interships, Residency programs, home health, etc. but been completely rejected so far.. can anyone give me an insight as to what else I can do? I really appreciate everyone's time and input, thank you so much~ Feeling blue in Dallas, TX...
