GN / RN Internship at Medical City Dallas

U.S.A. Texas

Published

i posted this in the gn forum but didn't get any response, so i hope someone here can help! thanks!

:) hello!

i just passed my state boards last month and have been looking for new nurse jobs/internships. i work for an hca facility and contacted a nurse recruiter @ medical city dallas (another hca facility) today for a position i saw posted for in pediatrics. she mentioned that she had just posted a gn / rn internship position online that will start in october and that i could apply for that. i got her contact info and information on the different units and went online to apply. i was so excited to apply!! its in several departments, pediatric congenital heart surgery unit, nicu, er, cvicu, nvicu....wow!

my only problem is that a bsn is required and i have an adn. i am really wanting to apply. i applied at parkland last friday and am keeping my options open. i know i don't meet the requirements, but would it be ok for me to apply even if i don't have my bsn? or should i just keep looking for other internships?

if i apply and get an interview and they offer me a position, it would be a transfer...i would still have to go to orientation, but i would get to keep my seniority (10 yrs this december).

i just need some guidance please. any advice/input good or bad would be appreciated.

thank you so much for taking the time to read my post.

Just looked on HCA and medical city and saw no job titles that have GN on them.

what i did was try searching each thing on its own, like try GN then try intern. I think they post under GN though. I didn't know they posted again already that's pretty early. Good luck with your search!

Puffi77 are you an HCA employe? I can’t think of any other reason why you would be able to see postings that we can’t. I know THR opens their GN positions to current employes for a few weeks before posting them to the public.

I spoke to HCA recruiters at multiple locations and they all told me that GN internships will be opening in mid March. Only a few more weeks:)

Thanks Meggo for that piece of info. I thought I was going crazy not being able to see the GN positions. I will keep checking back in March :) Do you know a estimate on how many GNs they will be hiring??

No problem! Its nice talking to someone who's in the same boat:)

I was told that they don't know how many positions will be open and they don't know exactly which specialties will be available. I'm not sure if it was HCA but when I asked a recruiter about where positions will be available she told me that each department at each facility decides for itself how many interns they can take and then report that to HR so HR doesn't know yet how many spots they will have available. All I know for sure is that in this area there are waaayyy more applicants than availabilities:crying2:

In tthe group that I am starting with there is about 34ish of us total. I think you are right about the departments deciding how many they will take but it also depends on how much funding there is for internships.

I know it's hard meggo.. It's very discouraging at times to apply for jobs knowing at least 100 more are applying to the same job postiing as you. I'm trying to stay positive that my resume is good enough to spark interest to get a interview. Gobananas15 what department did you get hired for if you don't mind me asking??

hello again,

I am sorry of I confused you all about the GN internships when I was talking about HCA..I acually meant Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital..they might still have some positions avaialable for new grads. As for HCA you are right that they will post in MId MArch or April, that is what I was told over the phone as well..Good Luck!

THR GN posting have been done for awhile now. They only had their postings up for about a week and took them down except for one. One of the recuiters I talked to said they were only hiring about 20 people total!!! Not sure how true it is but that's what I was told in Feb. I applied to a few postions they had to haven't heard anything back. I will keep looking for HCA :)

Hi Princess Wannabe, thanks for the info on texas health presby...I have not heard anything back from them either...I fear it will take awhile for me to land a job..That is just crazy..esp.with everybody talking about nursing shortage!!!

We just have to stay positive and hope for the best. I only applied to 4 of the positions opened but there were only 2 that I really wanted as my first choice. We will find a job it just might be the one that you want. Did you apply to Baylor?? Their application has been open since last week and will close on the 18th I believe. WE WILL FIND A JOB :)

Yes, I did apply to some of the ones Baylor has...I got 2 rejection emails for two of the positions I applied for. Today I got an email response for a med surge position leaning towards me getting an interview...hopefully I will get the call, it will be very difficult to start an internship with all the applicants that are out there but I am determined!!!
