I am applying to the Fall 2015 program, I know the program is really competetive so I wanted get an idea of what kinds of grades/ scores of others applying. I currently have an overall GPA of 3.3 and a prereq GPA of 3.6. I haven't taken my Hesi-A2 exam yet, but will be taking it tomorrow. I plan on applying to a few other schools as well. How did everyone score on their Hesi exam?
Hi, My name is Sarah, and I'm a native of Fairfax.
I too am concerned about the financial aspects of not working for a year, and I didn't submit my FAFSA yet because I was waiting on admission - didn't realize I was supposed to submit it without knowing if I'd be enrolled. Whoops. That'll be next on my to-do list!
I sent in my deposit, returned my forms, and informed my employer today - it was a good day! I'm still in disbelief! I know this is a super-competitive program, so those of us that got in are apparently the cream of the crop! I was confident in myself, but you never know who you are competing against for those coveted slots!
I like seeing so many people on this forum that got in. I wonder how big our class is and how many applied.
Looking forward to meeting you all in August!
Hi Talfan,
Yes, it does look like what you mentioned, all you had to do was submit an application to Mason stating that you had a bachelor's degree with your transcripts when you applied several months ago. I was told that I already had a MCC waiver and there was nothing further I needed to do. I paid my $250 enrollment fee online last night. My next step is to register for an orientation session after the enrollment fee has been processed. I haven't been able to figure out how to set up a Mason email yet. I'm assuming after you register for an orientation session, you'll receive instructions on that. I graduated from Mason back in 2005, with a degree in marketing, but I feel like so much has changed at Mason since then. I'm so excited to be heading back to Mason though!
Amanda
Is anyone going to the Mason Patriot Prelude for Admitted Student this Friday? Wondering if it's worth going to.
@al591 Thanks so much, Amanda, for the info on the MCC waiver! I appreciate you confirming with admissions! Likewise, I'll let you know if I find out anything about getting a Mason email. (But I assume you'll probably get to that before me since you've submitted the deposit already). I'm still waiting to hear back from a few other schools, so I'm holding off on sending the deposit for now. However, there seems to be at least a couple of you that are heading back to Mason after having done a previous degree there- so I think that's a good sign that you all are willing to come back! :)
Hey Talfan, I was admitted to this program last year but had to withdraw for family reasons before it began so I'm happy I've been given a second chance. I didn't attend the Patriot prelude but did do an evening transfer orientation. The first half of which I honestly could have skipped because it had nothing relevant to this program. I feel like the Patriot Prelude would kind of be in line/more geared towards students that are transferring in from community college etc. I could be wrong but that's just my impression.
Hi Talfan,
I haven't heard of the Mason Patriot Prelude. I'm just planning on doing the regular orientation though.
Morjayne4-That's great that you were given a second chance. It's also nice to find out that they do an evening transfer orientation. I hope to be able to register for one in the next few days after my payment has been processed.
The fall semester we had three days of class, 1 day of clinical and 1 day of lab. The clinical is officially 8 hrs long, but depending on your instructor, it could be longer or shorter. All of our classes are at Prince William although it seems as though this changes from year to year. Our lab is at Fairfax, and our clinicals are wherever the school can get placements, including VHC (in Arlington), most of the INOVAs, and Sibley. There might be a couple of other ones, but I don't know.
In the spring we are divided into three groups, and rotate through psych, OB, and peds for 4.5-5 weeks each. We also have community health, which is a 2 week long online class over our winter break, in the beginning of January.
We don't have our schedule for the summer yet, but it's supposed to be 2 online classes and our community health clinical over the first five weeks, and then just our preceptorship (which is where we shadow a single nurse full-time) for the second five weeks.
For clinical placements they say they try to place you close-ish to your house, but that doesn't mean you'll end up at a hospital right by you just because GMU has placements there. They try to optimize it for everyone. It is also important to email them the address of the place you actually live if it's different than the address Mason has on file for you because they will take that into account.

Teena- No way! You wouldn't expect to meet another person from MN in a program in NOVA. I have lived the past year in Ely working in the AmeriCorps. I got my first degree (Health Service Administration) at JMU in VA, so that's what drew me back to VA. You ever get to visit the Ely area while in MN? I'm not familiar with Augsburg College but that could be because we haven't gotten to branch out very much while here because its so isolated. I'm looking forward to meeting you and exchanging some MN stories (as well as everyone else in our class!)
