GMU accelerated BSN Fall 2015

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

I am applying to the Fall 2015 program, I know the program is really competetive so I wanted get an idea of what kinds of grades/ scores of others applying. I currently have an overall GPA of 3.3 and a prereq GPA of 3.6. I haven't taken my Hesi-A2 exam yet, but will be taking it tomorrow. I plan on applying to a few other schools as well. How did everyone score on their Hesi exam?

Hi CHBlake,

Have you received your general acceptance letter from George Mason University? The general acceptance from Mason will come with a small info packet that talks about the $250 fee. It's paid to the university, not the nursing program. Congratulations on being accepted!

Amanda

Yes, I did get that and I figured it out after I sent that message :-) Thanks and congratulations to you and all who have been accepted!!!

Hi mnm1018,

I emailed my agreement a few days ago and have not heard anything yet. I also dropped it in the mail as well, just in case. I know they receive a lot of email, so maybe we will hear something next week. I guess you could always call to make sure. They're always very helpful over the phone.

Hi al591,

Thanks! I'm going to send it in through the mail today too, just in case. I spoke with them the other day and they said that we should get a confirmation once they receive it. So hopefully next week. Just eager to make sure everything gets processed!

Also, I looked at the fall 2015 schedule of classes and as of yesterday it looks like most if not all of the classss will be on the Prince William campus. But I guess that can still change since the schedule just came out.

Hi deej394,

Thanks for all these info about the classes. I read somewhere (maybe it was you who posted it) that in one day you can have a class in both Fairfax and Prince William campuses. What's the time interval between your class in Fairfax and PW? I was just wondering if I will have enough time if I were to take the shuttle instead of driving.

Hi everyone,

I'm new here and I'm glad I found this thread :) Just received an email from GMU a few days ago and I am currently on the waitlist...I'm pretty happy considering. I wasn't expecting this at all since my application was incomplete. (I was not able to enroll to one of my prerequisites in time and was not able to submit one of the requirements.) Congrats on everyone who got accepted!! :)

Thanks for the information Deej394! Were the classes from 7:30-1:30 or 10:30-4:30?

@deej394 Thank you so much for all of the information you've provided. I was wondering how you and your classmates are doing grade wise. I don't need specifics but are most people feeling good about their GPA's as far as you know?

I just checked GMU schedule of classes for Fall-aside from clinical and the lab day at Fairfax that don't have days or times yet, the first set of classes are from 10:30-4:15 Mondays and Wednesdays. Here's the run down-305 and 310's times aren't listed, 309 W 10:30-1:10, 334 W 1:30-4:15, 419 M 10:30-1:10 and 425 M 1:30-4:15. I'm pretty sure that these are the classes we have to take first semester.

Specializes in Progressive care, cardiac surgery, telemetry.

Hi Morjayne4 and drdonna,

Our classes start at either 10:30 or 1:30, no 7:30 classes in Prince William. I just looked at patriotweb.gmu.edu (Mason's registration website-if you have a login already, the fall schedule is up and searchable). It looks as though you will have a class on Monday and a class on Wednesday both from 1:30-4:15, and a class on Wednesdays and Fridays from 10:30-1:15 all in Prince William. This is based on their current posted schedule, so its obviously not definite, but maybe that will help some people with planning and making a decision about which school to attend.

As far as grades, I think most people are fine. The school of nursing has its own standards for passing a class--either 73 or 77 depending on who you ask. It used to be 73, then they made it 77 in the fall and it is now back to 73 and I'm not sure if that was because of my class or the traditional students or something else. They may try to make it 77 again next year-who knows? Some of us have gotten lower than a 73 on individual tests, but for the most part, A's and B's are not hard to come by. There have been a lot of online open book/note tests and I think everyone got an A in lab.

I don't think any classes caused anyone a problem the first semester, but right now we are taking pharmacology, which I know is a struggle for some people. Most of us have at least one B (between all the classes), but there are people who have all A's, and I'm pretty sure there are also people with all B's and a C or two. I think everyone will get through the program and pass all the classes, and really, that's what matters. The actual grades are not that important. People hiring you are not going to care about your grades, but they will care about whether or not you have a degree and have passed the NCLEX (don't forget, "C's get degrees!").

The program is not overly difficult. The challenging part is dealing with the poor organization and lack of information from Mason. It is hard to organize your life around school (and get child-care) when you are not given a schedule until a week before.

Hello Everyone! I have just joined allnurses.com and I wanted to reach out to my future classmates! This is such a great way to connect and hopefully get some of our questions answered before the Fall. I look forward to meeting everyone in the Fall. I plan to attend orientation later this summer as advised here. I am hoping some classes will be at the Fairfax location as that is closer to where I live. Fingers crossed! Apparently there's construction on the Fairfax campus which could be where we have classes; is this correct? I look forward to checking back here soon! Take care!

Hello Everyone,

Congratulations to everyone who was accepted into the accelerated program.

There is a Facebook page for the 2015 entering ABSN GMU class so feel free to join that.

Just FYI

Can you provide a link or an exact page name so that we can find it? I've searched, but no luck.

also, if it's a private group, it won't be searchable.
