GMU accelerated BSN Fall 2015

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

I am applying to the Fall 2015 program, I know the program is really competetive so I wanted get an idea of what kinds of grades/ scores of others applying. I currently have an overall GPA of 3.3 and a prereq GPA of 3.6. I haven't taken my Hesi-A2 exam yet, but will be taking it tomorrow. I plan on applying to a few other schools as well. How did everyone score on their Hesi exam?

@talfan from what I rem when looking that up is that it seems like for the fall semester most classes are on the Fairfax campus. Spring classes are mostly on the Prince William campus except for lab which is on the Fairfax campus. Not sure about summer class though, don't remember seeing comments about that.

Hey everyone,

I've also applied to GMU's ABSN. Since biograd asked-I had a 95.2% cum. HESI and my prereq. GPA is 3.875. It's late and I can't remember/don't want to calculate my overall GPA but I'd say somewhere around 3.6ish. I only applied to Mason. I'm a mom of 5 so I'm limited in by ability to travel to other schools.

I can't believe that they're not sending out letters until the end of April. I was really hoping I'd find out soon.

Also, in reference to where classes are held. They alternate semesters between Fairfax and Prince William. I just checked Mason's schedule of classes for Fall 2015 and it looks like most classes will be at Prince William.

Has anyone heard back yet?

I just received an email from the GMU nursing department granting me admission into the Accelerated Second Degree BSN Program for fall 2015!!! Anyone else receive an email? I was looking out for a letter in the mail.

Hi!

Congratulations Morjayne4 and sergio42089! I am currently in the program and can answer questions that anyone has about it. All of our classes have been at Prince William, except for lab, which is at Fairfax. There is a new building under construction, and I am not sure if it will be done for next year, but if so, then most of your classes will be at Fairfax.

I also just got notified that I was accepted! Wasn't expecting to hear so soon...so excited!

Hi deej394, thank you! How do you like the program so far? And does are you pretty hopeful about job prospects upon graduation? I'm just asking because I got into VCU as well and now I have a tough decision to make even though I'm glad to even have one!

Congrats everyone!! Didn't expect to hear back as well so soon.

Honestly, GMU's program is not run very well. There are a lot of problems with the organization It just seems as though there is a general lack of communication between different members of the administration. I do, however, like the professors for the most part.

I don't know if they are planning on doing it this year, but when we started, we

were told that we would have a HESI exam after most of the classes, and that we would have two attempts to pass each one. If, on the second attempt, we did not pass, then we were to be kicked out of the program. Well, after that happened to a student (someone didn't pass one on the second try after seven weeks in the program), they changed their tune. The HESIs are now there as practice for us, and to help us evaluate our week areas for NCLEX prep. They do not affect our progression through the program. They may change this for you, so try to find that out before making a decision.

I think no matter where you go, you will find that there is horrible communication between the administration/professors and the students. We frequently aren't told things until maybe a week before (such as clinical placements and associated schedule) IF WE'RE LUCKY! Some professors tell us what they know, but they are frequently not told enough to be able to help us much.

The program is honestly not that difficult. Disorganized and stressful, yes, but academically I had a larger workload in high school. You will find that some of the classes seem very pointless, but they're apparently required for you to get a BSN as opposed to an associate's.

Jobwise, I am not very concerned. I've only just started looking, and am hoping to start working in September or October. I'm likely moving out of state, so my situation is a little different, but around here, it seems like plenty of the hospitals are hiring.

Good luck to you as you make your decision!

I also got my acceptance letter today! What a surprise! Wasn't expecting a decision so soon. And now I'm speechless! So excited to get started in August!
