:typing Hi everyone!! Im applying to GCC nursing program this fall 2009. I have heard that its very competitive and was wondering if anyone could tell me what they got on there HESI exam, which got them into the program? The minimum that they need just to apply is 75%, I got an 81% and am concerned that my average will not be high enough to secure me a spot for the fall. Any insight is appreciated!! Congratulations to all who are currently enrolled in the nursing program and good luck to all those who are applying!
Sincerely Thank you
Angelina:D
Hi caityliz It looks like we have the same schedule except our clinicals are on different days. Are you taking any summer classes? Congrats Ashlea I've been following your story but just finally registered to post.[/quote']Really? That's great! What day is your clinical?
I'm not actually taking any summer classes, are you? I've finished everything except my NUR classes, so that's all I'll be doing from now on. I have two little ones, so it was easier to get everything out of the way and be able to fully focus on my nursing courses.
I'm in a similar situation in that my kids are young but I'm taking A&P2 (starting tomorrow!) and I'll have to take micro next summer. Other than that it's all nursing classes. My clinical is on Saturday. At first it seemed like a good idea because it was one less day to have to get a sitter but now I'm wondering if Saturday clinicals will be as good. Anyone have any feedback on that? Caityliz, please feel free to PM me as I would love to get to know some one before class.

1) Less interaction possible with physicians = less observational experiences in regard to patient consultations and viewing procedures
2) During OR rotation (2nd semester), weekend clinical usually gets the shaft depending upon if the hospital site has surgery hours (most we have partnerships do not)
3) Adjunct professors man weekend clinical. From what I've heard, the majority of them are much "easier" to work with.
Hi DIC, Thanks so much, I've been reading your feedback for a while and have appreciated it. When you say "Easier" is that meant in a " you aren't going to learn as much" way or a " your life will be a bit easier" way? lol. Thanks again. My sitter situation changes after the first semester so if i is really to my disadvantage to have weekend clinicals then I would love to hear about it now so I can better plan. Thanks again for the feedback and help.

Easier in both ways you have mentioned as a matter of fact. It is dependent upon your faculty member honestly.
Some are carefree and won't "push" you as much, while others are just calmer by nature and allow you to learn without the added stress of being under the watch of a full-time faculty member.
You will see the difference. . .

I thought about taking that day, as my husband is off on Friday and Saturdays usually, so it helps us out for a sitter. Definitely keep me informed on that!
And same to you, feel free to PM me at any point - it's definitely helpful to know somebody before we start.
i wish i knew someone who was in my classes... =[ i just finished A&P 2 in summer I session so now im free until september =] and i just have to take micro next summer...
I'm sure you'll find someone..and if not, we're always around too. Just because we don't have class at the same time, doesn't mean we won't all be going through the same things/stresses - we'll all have each other :)
Has anyone else started the summer reading? I can’t believe all the chapters we are required to read before the semester even starts. I’m starting to get really nervous that I won’t be able to cut it. I hope that all goes well…
They give you those reading assignments to get you ready for the first day of class because you have a full lecture that day.
I made it through the program without having ever read one single chapter because I focused on two aspects of nursing curriculum: medical terminology (if you know the prefix, suffix, and root word of commonly-used medical terms, you are already ahead of the game), and pathophysiology. Patho is the key to passing nursing school.
Saunder's 4th edition NCLEX-RN Comprehensive Review and Fundamentals Success are the most important books you could read this summer.
They are all you need to prepare yourself for the upcoming semester.
Good luck, you made it this far. . .

I'm glad they finally got it together for you. We don't have anything together though it looks like. We're actually opposite each other on Mon/Thurs - I'm lecture from 8-1010 and lab from 1040-115.
