Gloucester County College Nursing Fall 2011 Hopefuls?

Published

Hi everyone!

Thought I could start this thread for anyone that is applying to the GCC Nursing Program this spring? I'm just getting my portfolio organized and prepared. I have to take the HESI one more time on Feb 24th and attend an info session on Feb 28th and I'm all set. I'm so nervous! But, I'm going to try to be optimistic. I look forward to hearing from you guys :) Take Care~

My stepdaughter got married today and my younger son bought a pair of argyle socks to wear to lawn parties at school tomorrow.

Totally random, I know. But this is how we roll!

I don't think anyone is registered for the same courses as I am. I registered for NUR 130-02 and NUR 131-02. I had to try to condense my days as much as possible for family purposes. Also, Gloucester accepted all of my transfer courses except for Microbiology (which I was REALLLLLLY hoping for) and Nutrition. I think I'm going to try to take them next summer so that I can focus only on nursing classes during the fall and spring. Also, I gave my lab paperwork to my Ob/Gyn to fill out since I recently had all of the blood work done and then they'll write a note that since I'm pregnant I won't be able to get any live vaccines until after the baby is born (due date July 11th!). I talked to Gloucester and they said that would be fine and once I submit the paperwork they will give me a later due date for any vaccines I'm unable to receive until then. I also have my physical appointment on the 12th. Is anyone already registered for CPR? I'm BLS certified already and the course was infant, child, and adult CPR and AED but on the card it just says that it's the class for the healthcare professional. My card doesn't specify the infant, child, adult CPR and AED thing and the paperwork for school says that it needs to. I was wondering if anyone else has a CPR card that's more specific.

I haven't gotten my cpr certification yet..... I will be obtaining it through my community cpr teacher at gcc before the end of the semester, so I can't really say what the card looks like yet. Sorry :(

Haha! :D

Your family sounds great!

here's a cool link about medical spanish w/pronunciation: http://www.123teachme.com/learn_spanish/medical-spanish

I was really wanting to take a class at GCC but I think I just might practice on my own for now.

I'm taking the class at school, dannipoint. I had four years of Spanish in high school that were very good and took a refresher semester in 2004. I have no problem at all with the Spanish for Medical Professional class. I took it at school even though I had a pretty extensive vocabulary in order to be able to have on my resume that I'd taken the class. My professor is writing a letter of recommendation for me.

If you have a background in Spanish you can definitely do it on your own. Think about whether you want or need the formal class for your resume. I'm not sure if I really needed to do it, but I did!

That's just the certification (and card) that is required. No worries . . .:twocents:

This is the American Heart Association card (valid for 2 years) . . .

My life if you have the card that Skeletor put up than it's ok . . even if it doesn't say it . . .they actually mark the boxes for child, infant and adult. Look on the back of the card for the checked boxes that were covered during ur course!

My two cents . . .don't take the course for healthcare professionals just yet. wait until after u r employed and take it for free! If you need spanish for your B.S then I suggest you take the normal spanish class!

That's what my card looks like exactly...I don't recall there being any boxes to check on the back but I'll have to look again to be sure.

Update on my cpr certification: My CPR class at GCC runs from 5:40-8:10.... but this week and next my teacher is doing the professional bridge so I have to stay at school until 10pm! Iayaya lol. I'll be glad when this semester is over and my packet is complete so I can hand it in and relax. lol.

Momtofore, I took 3 years of spanish in high school and I was fairly good at it, but I forgot most of it.... I was thinking about taking spanish for a humanities elective but, I decided to take art appreciation instead. But, it would be good to put that on a resume. I will consider it, but in the meantime I'll try to practice on my own.
