Hello all!
As cliché as this title seems, I wanted to gain some perspective from former nursing students and others. I used to live in California-- and attended San Joaquin Delta College. I had originally wanted to go into Nursing, but somewhere along the road, felt discouraged and with many other circumstances that followed, my grades were slowly dropping and I just gave up on Nursing seeing as I was unfit. After some time and thinking, I decided to venture out and move to Minnesota-- new start and I could allow myself to focus more on myself now. I really still see myself doing Nursing, and am thinking of either going into MCTC or Century College. I hear MCTC is well known for their Nursing Program and am thinking of giving it a go. However, I'm scared that they won't accept me due to the fact that I left Delta with a 2.2 Overall GPA and that the grades that I'm working hard for now won't count, and will be denied. Luckily I didn't take any pre-requisites for Nursing other than Chem, and I flopped on that while I was at Delta (never took it in MCTC yet but I want to!) Any feedback would be nice. I'm at a pre-quarter life crisis and have yet to achieve anything at 23. ):

What makes you think that this time will be different? It is a serious question, since you stated that you felt discouraged and ended up giving up when you were in CA.
But, depending on the program, your overall GPA may not be an issue. Some programs only consider the grades you achieved in the prereqs.
I felt discouraged by it due to circumstances that were around me. I left California to go to Minnesota for a chance to start over and just better myself. Right now I'm doing well in my community college here
Good for you. Sometimes change is good.
We often see people who have 3 Bachelor's already but decide that nursing is suddenly for them. I was just curious whether or not you were one of these individuals.
Welcome to AN. I look forward to hearing about your journey through nursing. There are lots of wonderful individuals on AN, so feel free to ask any questions you might have.

Submit your application and transcript and see what happens. I would encourage you to ask both schools about their dropout rates, rate for passing NCLEX as well as waiting time. During that waiting time, you can work on prereqs and required Gen Eds. It is my understanding that there can be long wait times in Minnesota to get into nursing school. We had a lot from Minnesota come to Iowa for nursing school, so just want you to be aware of that issue.
I agree that different location, different school and different circumstances can make a difference in success. Good Luck
Technically no. I was into Nursing from the beginning, felt discouraged and was looking into what other "healthcare" majors I was interested. Nursing still has my best interest at heart so now I will be going back into it-- full gear.
