Getting in shape/Losing weight in pre-nursing/NS support thread

Published

Although, It says for students Everyone is welcome.

A few years ago I lost a significant amount of weight and increased my health by walking/running. I was involved with a support thread on another board. We shared our stats each week, our ups, and our downs. It was so helpful for me to be accountable for my actiions and numbers. Well, I was doing good, but had a surprise pregnancy now he is 2, and I am back where I was and then some.

With the unique considerations that come from fitting excercise and a healthy diet in during NS/and pre- reqs, I thought it might be nice to be able to share and support each other because we know better than anyone else the stress of time management and pressure of keeping our grades up.

I know that NS can be strenuous physically and I want to get in shape or at least a head start for this fall

Would anyone else like to join me?

Piglet, I heard the same thing about 28 days makes a habit. Just 26 more to go :yelclap:

I got my walk in last night, so that is 60 minutes so far this week. Unfortunately it is raining today:( Hopefully it will clear p this afternoon. Otherwise I will have to do a tape or tne treadmill. I hate the treadmill.

We went to Applebees last night for dinner, I had the Garlic Herb Chicken off of the WW menu. It was ok.(I won't say it was great) I was eyeing my little one's hambrger. LOL

My two youngest daughters told the waitress that it my Bday. She brought me a hot fudge shooter. I only ate one bite, and gave the rest away. So I guess that wasn't too bad. It felt good knowing I didn't overindlge.

Who weighs their self everyday?

I do. I have heard from some that say yo should and some that say you shouldn't. I was just curious as to what everyone else does.

Keep up the good work ladies!! We are going to have a great week!!

Fuuchan,

I didn't see your post before I sent mine. LOL!

I guess we were thinking about the same things.

For me, I like weighing myself everyday, because it keeps me on track. I try and do it every morning. and with the same clothes on. that way it will be more accurate. I don't have very big fluctuations. I know some people have problems with this.

As long as things continue at the same rate, I know I will have a loss Monday. But, I got to get by this weekend . Weekends are tough!

We go out to eat a lot when we are busy. That is one of the habits we are trying to change. Going out to eat is are biggest challenge.

Fuuchan, I have not tried green tea, other that than the walmart crap LOL!!!!

Do you buy yours at a health food store? or where do you get the good stuff?

Depends on what kind of mood I'm in if I'll weigh every day or not. I kind of want to be 'surprised' when I do it once a week. Most of the time I go 2-3 times a week.

As far as the green tea (by the way I love wal-mart, it's just the Lipton's tends to be too bitter) I get my at an Asian grocery store. Green tea tends to be very bitter but there is one brand called Genma-Cha that has brown rice in it that is almost...sweet. Put a little milk in it and it's a nice treat.

i also weigh myself everyday..sometimes even more than once a day...i dont know why its just a habit i guess...i have already lost 2 lbs this week...im so excited...i tried the green tea at walmart and i didnt like it it was bitter and i think it was a citrus kind i dont know but im up for trying anything if you tell me exactly what to get

Good job on the loss!!!!

Green tea - yup, it's bitter and it takes so getting used to. One of the reasons I don't really like the 'commercial' teas. If you have an Asian grocer in your area, go in and ask for Genma-cha (it's not a brand, it's a type of tea) then if they don't have it in a bag you just seep the leaves for about 3 minutes. It's got an almost sweet nutty flavor. No where near as bitter as the other teas. It's a great 'gateway' tea. :D

Ya'll crack me up! There are weeks when I weigh myself everyday, and sometimes more then once a day if I am feeling smaller.....I know, I know. I always weigh myself naked....so it's all me and nothing but me, which is a little sad at the moment.:banghead:

Also call me crazy but I also breath out when I weigh myself cause you know the air might make me weigh more and I always pee first too.....OMG I do sound crazy:bowingpur

My official weight though is on Saturday mornings when I go to WW at 8:30 at the gym. I wear the exact same clothes every week. I drink nothing before hand so I take coffe in a travel mug for the meeting.

I am hoping to see some loss but this week has been a little rough. Work has me way in the dumps which has resulted in a little bit of nibbling....and a beer and a glass of red wine.....sometimes you just have to give yourself a little slack.

Good luck to us all and good karma for the weekend!:p

You're not alone Piglet! I'm on the scale every day as well. Also first thing in the morning, after I pee and without any clothes. I've even been known to trim my nails before I get on the scale if it's been a particularly tough week!

This hasn't been an easy week by any stretch. 3 tests (only one more to go) and I've had this nasty head cold. I haven't eaten much because my throat hurt, but I also haven't moved much at all between the studying and the feeling crappy, so I don't think I'll see much of a loss.

The good news is that my brain is convinced that I'm losing this extra tonnage. I find myself thinking about when I wear this summer outfit instead of if. That sounds like progress to me!

Happy Friday everyone!

I had and ok week yesterday I did not get to exercise at all. I have stayed within points for WW. I could have made better food choices for diner on Wed. and Tue. but even with what I chose I was ok on points. Guess that is one of the things that made me to decide to do WW.

Maine I hope you feel better, Good luck with the last test this week next week will be better for you.

Piglet good luck hope next week is less stress for you at work.

Fuuchan thanks for tip of the green tea leaves. Where do you get them? I find my self weighing in daily too, but I'm one that can flucuate 5+ lbs between days. So sometimes it is discouraging.

Good luck to everyone in the coming week........

I really wanted to go walk in the park, but there is a tornado watch in my county until 10 tonight and there are warnings in the counties all around mine! :(

so, it doesn't look like i will get to go walk tonight...guess I will try to double up tomorrow!

Miss Rn sorry to hear that. I will keep you in my thought and pray that the bad weather stays away. Keep safe....

So...since the weather was so nasty and i dont have any food in my apartment and didnt want to get out to go shopping...my boyfriend suggested that we order pizza. big mistake. needless to say, i ate it...and it was pineapple! (not that it makes it any healthier). ha. so, after i ate it, i could feel my body rejecting it because I have not had any greasy food or anything like it all week. i've only had relatively healthy food. so, i felt so gross and so terrible after i ate it, that i waited out the storms and went to the park and walked 2-18 minute miles. I know that I probably didn't burn it all off like I wanted to, but it started to lightning and I figured that I should come home...i plan on definitely plan on going back in the morning if possible to walk a lot more.

i feel soooooo guilty. everyone be strong this weekend! dont give in!

more than likely it will make you feel sick like it did me tonight. i will not be doing that again!!! the feeling really not worth the few minutes of good taste.
