Getting in shape/Losing weight in pre-nursing/NS support thread

Nurses Stress 101

Published

Although, It says for students Everyone is welcome.

A few years ago I lost a significant amount of weight and increased my health by walking/running. I was involved with a support thread on another board. We shared our stats each week, our ups, and our downs. It was so helpful for me to be accountable for my actiions and numbers. Well, I was doing good, but had a surprise pregnancy now he is 2, and I am back where I was and then some.

With the unique considerations that come from fitting excercise and a healthy diet in during NS/and pre- reqs, I thought it might be nice to be able to share and support each other because we know better than anyone else the stress of time management and pressure of keeping our grades up.

I know that NS can be strenuous physically and I want to get in shape or at least a head start for this fall

Would anyone else like to join me?

Good Luck to all of you guys with tests this week. Good Karma coming your way. Good luck to all of us on our fitness goals.

Maine although you don't like cold cereal have you considered maybe doing grape nuts with soy milk and heating it up in the microwave. It's not to shabby. Have you ever considered Grits? I lived in the south for a few years and they another option. Don't forget there is nothing wrong with lunch and dinner for breakfast, so if there is something you love for lunch give it a try for breakfast.

For those that aren't vegans I made Ziti tonight with ground turkey.....it was really good. Opted for fat free cheese as well and Ronzoni Pasta which has three times the dietary fiber. Fiber is very important.

I am there with you guys tonight....I will be watching the Biggest Loser. The show is so inspiring! Have a great night all!

Almost forgot....Protein shakes. You can get the protein powder from GNC and mix with soy and a banana or other fruit. It taste good with wheat germ too!

Excellent ideas, Piglet! As luck would have it, I have a nasty head/nose/throat thing going on. This is especially ridiculous because I almost never get sick - it's like a once every 4 or 5 years kind of thing. But here I am with 5 tests this week and my head feels like it weighs more than the rest of me. Everybody around me has had it, so I shouldn't be surprised, but still, the timing stinks!

On the upside, my throat is so sore, and I feel pretty awful, so I don't have much of an appetite. I've had lots to drink (bubbly water, hot tea, cabbage soup) and some apple sauce and soy yogurts. I'd better show a nice loss this week!

OK - time for our favorite show!

Ugh, horrible horrible start for me today. Major stress at work and with school. I can't say I had anything substantial (a banana, 2 granola bars, a cheese stick) only thing was for lunch I had some left over lo mein. I don't even feel like eating dinner, I'm so tired right now and those Oreos look so good.....

My digestive test is next Monday. All hail the might duodenum and good luck all on your tests.:redpinkhe

I'm hoping to start NS in the fall. I'm still waiting on an acceptance :) or rejection :( letter. In the meantime, I'm trying to eat more fruit & veggies, drink lots of water to stay hydrated and jog half mile and walk half a mile per day. It's not much exercise, but right now, it is really all I have time for.

I have school during the day to finish up my prereqs and work at night until about 9-10. So, 30 minutes to drive to the park, walk/jog, and drive back home is pretty much all I can do for right now. I'm hoping that I will get to work out more when summer gets here and I only have 1 class!

Hope everyone is doing well so far this week. I'm happy to report that I have done really well. I'm doing WW and stayed below my points for both days. I got my 30min walk in yesterday and 35 today. I do not feel deprived either. I even had a grande skinny cinnimon dulce latte today and it was only 1 point.....think I'm gonna like doing WW.

Good luck to all of you that have upcoming GI tests.......oh and btw biggest looser is on now as I sit here and type this......lol

Fuuchan tomorrow is a new day and will be better..... we can do this.

I think I am also going to have to lower the weight loss goal if the deadline is 9/1... I don't believe I will lose 72 pounds by then. I think 40 pounds would be a good goal if I can stick with the diet and exercise. I've been doing the exercises but finding it hard to stick with the diet. I go over my points on the regular.

Good morning ladies and gents. I'm venting. I think I'm going to quit my job and get another. The stress is not something that I'm willing to put up with. It's not that I can't handle it but this place is not my career (medical billing) I want to be on the clinical side, not the clerical. Money is decent but my sanity and ability to perform well in NS and have more time with my son is even better so I'll make do. Heck, maybe my cortisol levels will come down a little bit now and help me lose some weight. :D

Anywho, I know this says Men's health but it was interesting to see the calorie difference in popular foods. Let's face it, we're all going to go out for a burger, so at least try to pick 'the lesser to two evils'. Enjoy:redpinkhe

Not the best morning for me either. I went to bed feeling dizzy/vertigo like last night and woke up with the same feeling only 10 times worse. Every time I sat up I felt like I was going to chuck :uhoh21: (sorry so graphic). I went back to bed for an extra 45 minutes sleep before getting on a conference call. (I work from home....sounds good I know but I work 24/7 so not the best) I feeling a little bit better but instead of a healthy breakfast I had three 100 calorie packs for a total of 6 WW points. It was the only thing I could stomached but now I feel like a loser.

Fuuchan....thanks for the link on the mens health. It was interesting to look at and see the difference.

MissRnStudent10, 1/2 mile run and 1/2 mile walk is great....you are making the time you can make and that's what's important.

Maine, I hope you feel better soon.

One More thing:

What did ya'll think of Biggest Loser last night? The whole family was watching and when they threw those numbers up we all gasped. It's so funny, my husband two kids 10-12 are just amazed at all of the contestants.

I am cheering for Ali though cause it would be nice to see a girl win finally. Although at 5'5" and 135 pounds she doesn't have anymore weight to lose.

Their stories are inspiring!

Biggest Loser last night was awesome! Can you imagine losing that much in one week? And when I think of how much they have lost in 1 weeks it makes my weight loss goal seem really pitiful!! Then again, I don't have trainers and chefs.

Thanks for the kind words, Piglet. I'm still not feeling great, but it's not as bad as yesterday. Luckily, we just had skills lab today, so I only infected my classmates and not real patients.

Speaking of classmates - one of the girls in my CNA program announced today that she's sending in a video to apply to be on Biggest Loser! She wants to bring her camera to class with her next week to show a day in her life. So cool!

I'm still eating soup, soy yogurt and applesauce. My throat is doing it's part to help me get started this week!
