getting forms from parents

Published

In my state, certain grades are mandated to show proof of dental exams and ophthalmology exams. We can't do much to "force" them to submit the paperwork, however, I am being asked to get resources to the families that need it.

We already send letters home, send out email blasts, phone call blasts, I have a mobile dentist come, I have free vision vouchers. I'm not sure what else to do.

Is there anything else that you all do to communicate/reach out to families to ensure these needs are met? I'm at a loss.

Good enough...no, that's above and beyond.

The fact that you have a mobile dental van is amazing!!!

Here's what I chart: Attempt #1 (call home/letter home). Attempt #2 (usually a letter). Attempt #3 - actual phone call to see if there's any way I can assist.

Then I chart Parent educated re: district policy, referrals made. And it stops there. Because the district cannot require any more of me.

Short of driving each individual child that hasn't complied, i'd say, you have it covered. Don't drive the children to the doctor - it'd be creepy and awkward! ?

You've gone above and beyond! Right around this time of year is when I give up on the parents who haven't turned the forms in yet.

These are all the things we do also. You've done what you can... It's on the parents to get it done.

Thank you all for the reassurance that I'm doing all I really can do!

Rest assured, Flare, I'm not driving anyone anywhere ?

I literally just said that to a teacher. I can only do so much. I can't drive them to the clinic.

In my area we can also refer to the Lions club for eyeglass issues; if a true need is proven they an provide free eyeglasses.

do you have any recourse to exclude from school until compliance is met? I can do that with vaccines and entry physicals (after a certain point)
