Getting an early start on RN to BSN classes

Published

Hello out there,

I have six months before starting the ADN program at a local community college and would like to take classes that would fulfill some RN to BSN requirements prior to actually having gotten the RN. I have a BA in psychology already and will not do an accelerated BSN because most likely I would not be accepted... I'm a "B" student. Any ideas?

What I did was look at RN to BSN programs that my school was partnered with. My school was partnered with OU. So I had a list of electives that would transfer over from my school to OU and what electives OU wants. I only have to do the 9 nursing classes and one English class now to get my BSN so I can be done in less than 1 year now.

I'm in an ASN program and like applesxoranges, I just looked at the classes that my intended RN-BSN program required. Consequently, I took College Algebra, Elementary Statistics, 6 cr of humanities, Developmental Psychology, and some other classes that are not required for my ASN program but are for my intended RN-BSN rogram.

Speak with a nursing advisor at the school you intend to transfer to and they can provide you with the courses (and equivalent transfer course numbers) that your school offers. I've been working on RN-to-BSN transfer classes since I finished my pre-reqs. During the summer semesters, as well. Getting Stats, Gen Chem, Organic Chem, Nutrition, Pathophys, etc. knocked out now will save a LOT of time when I'm ready to transition after I complete my ADN program.
